    Hi,

I use Download Monitor to count downloads of different PDF files. I noticed that simply using URLs (e.g. yourdomain.com/download/1234/) instead of shortcode works just as well — downloads seem to be counted accurately. Is this assumption correct?

Are there any circumstances when shortcode should be used to count downloads? I do have time when there are many requests for downloads are coming in at the same time (several hundred per hour) and want to make sure downloads are still counted accurately.

    Many thanks for your help,

    Al

  • Hey Al,

The URL created by the plugin is used even if you add a shortcode. We provide shortcode just to make it easy to later allow users to change the slug, ie. the word “download” within the link.

So whether you use a shortcode or the download link, both will result in the same thing and the download count will not have any impact on it.

I hope that answers your query. Let us know if you have any further questions.
