• The example showed on the WordPress Gallery page has a nice tiling format that I require for my website.

    When I use the gallery feature however the format is full-width slideshow and not a tiling format.

    Any notes on how to use the advertised image gallery format in posts would be appreciated.

    Yours displays in “full-width slideshow” this means there is some function from theme (or plugin) making it to be like that as a special feature. If this is the case, refer to your theme’s documentation on how to disable this option.

    It’s also possible that the method you actually used to populate the images are not WordPress’s way of using default gallery, but rather theme/plugin ‘s way of creating that gallery which designed to be display as slideshow.
