We had our website developed and since handover we cannot contact the developer. I have started to learn WordPress, so I can manage the site. I updated some of the text elements through WordPress and checked the altered page by using the Preview Page option within Pages editing, however; when I was finished minor text editing changes to the Home page the site was no longer available and though I have since reversed the changes it remains this way.

The attraction of WordPress for us was that we could change our messaging throughout the year without constantly putting pressure on coders. Something is broken and while I get up to speed on WordPress I would appreciate anybody’s advice as to what to correct. If I type in yptaa.com.au I get the error, yet yptaa.com.au/home-page works.

I looked at wp-config and made changes I thought would work, but nothing did, so again: your patience and advice are appreciated while I bring myself up to speed with WordPress and it various bolt-ons.

I can view the home page from the Pages section of WordPress, when I choose the Permalink or Preview Changes option, but I cannot view the home page if I choose the Visit Site from the dropdown on the left top menu of WordPress.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

Head over to Settings > Reading in your site’s Dashboard and make sure that your home page is set properly: https://codex.wordpress.org/Creating_a_Static_Front_Page

    James,

Thanks for your reply. Like I mentioned before I am new to WordPress and while I am filling the gaps of my lack of knowledge I don’t yet understand your answer. That said I think you are sending me to a solution that would help educate me, which again I appreciate, however my learning curve is slow and while I do that if you or anybody else can offer help I would be grateful.

Our site has a custom template and from what I can read I have to point front-page.php to that. I will try but I am pretty lost. As far as I can see the homepage setting are fine but I could be missing something. http://www.yptaa.com.au is not loading whereas yptaa.com.au/home-page is.

Go to Settings > Reading in your site’s Dashboard.

There, you’ll find the settings for the site’s from page. Make sure that the desired front page is selected there.

    Hello,

I am having the same issue. I checked my settings and they are correct.

    Did you ever resolve this?

    Much appreciated
