The TinyMCE buttons are missing, yeah this is like the millionth topic about this. I’ve read that often the problem is in the tiny_mce_config.php file. I went to search for mine and it doesn’t exist. I then downloaded TinyMCE and it isn’t there either. I then went and redownloaded wordpress and it wasn’t there either. I am using version 2.7.1.

    Help?

    Really? No one?

yeah, I have the same problem. Apparently, this missing file causes the malfunctioning of the visual editor.
I copied the tiny_mce_config.php from another wordpress installation, but it still doesn’t work. Did you solve the problem? Any thoughts?

I’ve just come across this on a number of sites. I found that by installing the Tiny MCE Advanced plugin, it solved the issue.

It does add a few new functions onto the Tiny MCE interface, but crucially all the old ones return as well. Additionally, the content (which was invisible / white and only visible when selected) returns to normal.

thank you dyates!!! tinymce advanced solved my problem as well.
i thought the problem was linked to my remote server as it did not show up on my local host. now it even plays nice with qtranslate and other plugins 🙂

i think wordpress did away with this file somewhere around 2.7
