    Hi,

No, it’s actually quite different, but you can do more or less the same thing. I am not surprised this project has been abandoned, it’s actually almost impossible to make perfect. You can delete the files which are registered in the metadata with it, but if they aren’t, then they are orphan files (which Media Cleaner Pro can detect). Simpler and faster than this plugin, I would do this: https://philipnewcomer.net/2015/12/delete-wordpress-generated-thumbnail-sizes/. Delete everything in one command, disable the sizes you don’t need with another plugin, and regenerate the thumbnails.

My cleaner is going through all the files. But actually my cleaner is trying to be safe, and it will not delete a random size if the main file is there, for the simple reason that it might be used (custom crop).

That said, I think I will add a feature to delete all the thumbnails in it, that could be indeed useful 🙂

Weird. I`ve run the code you advised me and it actually just created more sizes over the current set sizes. So, will you pro plugin delete sizes that repeat and leave just the ones that are random? But will it keep all current set sizes? Even for the ones that are not being called through DB anywhere? Thank you! 😉

That code did not even remove sizes that I turned off through ewww plugin…

This code can only delete files, definitely not generating 🙂 You should ask a developer to do this for you, it’s very important to know exactly what this code is doing.

I am thinking of adding an option to skip the main files, with this the plugin will be able to detect all the generated sizes and you will be able to delete them. However, that will be part of the Pro as the “Filesystem” scan will be part of it. If you are interested in this, please contact me.

Actually I would like just a plugin that work like https://wordpress.org/plugins/optimize-images-resizing/ used to do before, I do not need much more than that. Usually I buy pro versions at Codecanyon, because I feel safer there. However, I will hold on a little bit more, because many plugins for this task just stopped to work, so I am worried if that was due to a WordPress core change. Really thank you for your attention. For sure I will consider that when I decide to buy something to deal with my unused images. Thank you very much!

I am curious, why do you feel it’s safer? Developer starts with CodeCanyon because it’s simpler, but as soon as they can move out from it they do it (they take 50%, which is crazy, and impose lot of rules).

I have just pushed new update yesterday to do exactly what you want actually 🙂 If you are interested and want to try it. Don’t hesitate to also contact me through meowapps.com/contact.

    Hey Jordy,
Think I am going the same direction as the forum. I used Forced regenerate Thumbnails and zeroed out my media image sizes cause I use Enhanced Media Library PRO. By doing this I went from 260,000 files to 174,000 but looking at my backup
there seems still an incredible amount of file images. You talk of the update will it solve this mess of image files? Thanks. Mike

@mikpeaches With the latest update, you can actually get all those generated thumbnails and delete them. Then use Regenerate Thumbnails. It’s part of my tutorial, the 4th section: https://meowapps.com/media-cleaner/tutorial/. Keep in mind that only the Pro version of my plugin analyzes the raw Filesystem. The Free version works only with the Media and their metadata.
