If using Smart Buttons they disappear if you update the shipping methods on the Cart page. Also, seems Smart Buttons don’t show in woocommerce minicart widget (but it still changes the “Proceed to Checkout” to “Pay with Credit Card” in the minicart). Not a big deal since I can just use the regular buttons instead but FYI.

Hmmm, thanks for the feedback. We’ll look into this and make necessary adjustments in an update. I’ll update here when that’s done.

We have pushed a 1.4.8.3 update that resolves the issue with the smart buttons disappearing when you switch shipping methods.

We’re still working on the mini-cart issue and that will be done in another update soon.

Strange, it still disappears for me when I update the Shipping Pricing (i.e. change shipping zip code to an area with different shipping costs). If I just change the shipping method now by selecting a different option then the smart buttons do stay now, but if I actually change the zip code then they disappear (or if it is the first time and I’m just entering the zip code and calculating the cost on the cart page then they also disappear).

The issue I’m having in my ticket as discussed before is much more of an urgent matter for me but I just figured this is information that may be helpful to you incase others are experiencing it as well.

Same issue also if you change the quantity of items in your cart then hit Update Cart. The buttons come back though if ou click a different shipping method, even if they were missing already at that point.

Okay, thanks for the feedback. We’ll check again and get another update released.

Is there a description or explanation somewhere about what the smart buttons are? ” The enhanced PayPal Express Checkout with In-Context gives your customers a simplified checkout experience that keeps them at your website throughout the payment authorization process.” Does this mean that customers are no longer sent to paypal.com to complete Express Checkouts? Bit confused here…

@mdc2957, Express Checkout’s Smart Payment Buttons feature gives merchants a variety of ways to customize payment buttons on the checkout page.

With Smart Payment Buttons, you can choose:

The size, color, and shape of not just your PayPal checkout button, but also buttons for other, multiple alternative payment methods such as PayPal Credit, and local funding sources.
The language that appears on the buttons
The button layout you prefer: horizontal or vertical.

Based on your specific configuration and a buyer’s location and cookies, Express Checkout dynamically presents the appropriate funding sources to give your buyers more ways to pay.

And this actually use the in-context option to do the magic. So Its the same thing with a new name though but with more options to customize the generic In-context button.
Hope that clears the confusion. let me know if you need any further assistance.
    Thanks!

Sounds interesting, is there some place that I can see these smart payment buttons in action (other than enabling on my own site) ?

@mdc2957, You can take a look at them on my test site: http://woo.angelleye.com/product/premium-quality/.

That shows it on the product page, or if you add to cart and then view the cart you’ll see them show up there too.

In the settings when you adjust the options for Smart Buttons you’ll see a preview of how the buttons will look with those settings, so you can check that out, too.

From what I can see on your test site, when I click the paypal button, instead of taking me to the Paypal site, it opens a popup to go to paypal and make payment. Is that pretty much the goal of the smart button?

Smart buttons seem great, really like how they change on Mobile vs Tablet vs Desktop.

The minicart widget still won’t show the smart buttons (will only work if I disable smart buttons). We probably will just leave it on the Cart page only though.

    Plugin Contributor angelleye

    (@angelleye)

@mdc2957, That is one of the benefits of Smart Buttons, yes. It uses the “In Context” flow, so you aren’t sent completely away from the site, but instead it works in the pop up. Also, the smart buttons now include additional payment methods like Venmo, but that will only be available on live accounts when mobile devices are used where Venmo is installed.

In the future PayPal will be able to push updates to Smart Buttons without developers having to re-integrate anything, so it will help with future growth and feature improvements in general. The smart buttons also tie in Guest Checkout (credit card payments without logging in to PayPal) in a much more prominent fashion, so this helps conversion rates.

@restalfep, did you update to the latest 1.4.8.4 version? We made some adjustments there that should have fixed the mini-cart. Please make sure you’re on that version, and also clear any caching / CDN tools you have in place. Then let me know if it’s still happening. Thanks!

The issues outlined here should be all resolved in the latest updates. Please let us know otherwise. Thanks!
