• Hello,

It seems as if I have everything set up correctly, I uploaded wordpress to the topmost directory of my hosting account, I set up a MySQL Database with a user name, password and everything. I ensured that the host address was not simply ‘localhost’ but rather the host location that I got from GoDaddy, yet I keep getting the following error:

    Can’t select database

We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the WordPress database.

    * Are you sure it exists?
    * Does the user 26637502 have permission to use the WordPress database?
    * On some systems the name of your database is prefixed with your username, so it would be like username_Wordpress. Could that be the problem?

If you don’t know how to setup a database you should contact your host. If all else fails you may find help at the WordPress Support Forums.

If anyone can help me I would greatly appreciate it, I can supply any additional imforation required.
    Thanks,
    Zach

  • Two things:

    1. When you create a database with Godaddy, it could take up to 30 minutes for it to actually get created. So, make sure it doesn’t indicate that the db is still being set-up.

    2. Maybe the following video will help you look at what is in your config file and spot any possible errors.

We were able to connect to the database server (which means your username and password is okay) but not able to select the WordPress database.

Also, godaddy does not use “localhost” but something similar to
    p50.secureserver.net
    or
    mysql33.secureserver.net

I have the same issue. I have WordPress hosted on GoDaddy. One install under root an one install under /wordpress.
All was working fine and from literally one minute to another I was not able to logon to the WP control panel under root. In a matter of fact I was automatically redirected to the WP control panel logon under the /wordpress install.
When calling up http://domain/wp-admin/wp-login.php I get the control panel logon screen, but it will not accept username or password. It was working fine for 2 days and today I just did a page content change and it took he first change but when I tried to submit the second change I was kicked out of the WP control panel and was not able to logon anymore. GoDaddy Tech support says that somehow the logon script could not read the WP DB and that it most likely was a permissions issue (????). So I changed the permissions for all directories to be read/write but no difference.
Right now I am reinstalling WP under root and see how long this will work.
