Grouped Products Issue

Hi everyone,
Hoping someone can guide me in the right direction on how to fix an issue i am having with version 3.3.3

I have a lot of grouped products.
Previously, I could set the child products to hidden, and they didnt appear in search or in the catalog, but when you view the grouped product you could click the child item and it would link to the product so you could view more info if required.
Now, if i select anything other than catalog & search for the visibility on the child items they will not display as a link to the child product.

It is critical for me to be able to keep these items from search & catalog to keep it all looking clean, and for just the grouped item to be shown.

Each child product still has to be its own individual product as they sync to our pos software and update stock etc.

Can any one advise me on what i can do to solve this issue?
