There isn’t a difference in the file created with “export site” and “create backup”
For customers that have purchased the paid extensions that connect to cloud storage or FTP, the backup section of the plugin offers functionality to schedule backups. In the free plugin it takes you to the “export site” section where exporting to file gives you a full backup of your site.

Thank you. Has that behavior changed recently?
Switching to export (as file) saves the backup as a download. Which is great, but the Backup function I remember saved the file on my hosting server. When I’m on a slow connection, that’s much more useful.
Could my web hosting be preventing the file being saved on the server?
