I’ve been having trouble importing bulk product variations in WooCommerce. Currently I’m trying to upload a csv with 2900 variations and it has stalled a few times. It then finished but the variations weren’t linked properly.

I’ve had plenty of success in the past using the same csv template.

I’m just trying to establish where the bottleneck in my system is. If this should be within WooCommerce capabilities then maybe I’ll chat to my host about it, just eliminating one thing at a time.

    Hi @photoevo

Can you try importing just the files that failed, rather than all 2900? If so, do you get the same result? You can also ensure you have the CSV configured properly using the sample CSV we have here:

    https://github.com/woocommerce/woocommerce/blob/master/sample-data/sample_products.csv

Let us know what you find.

    Hi John,

We updated WooCommerce last night and I’ve since isolated one simple product that failed before and imported it on its own. That worked. So now I’m deleted the whole import from before and re-importing it to see if the update fixed it or whether the amount of data is creating the issue.

    Thanks

Also make sure you use the “Update existing products” setting accordingly. The products in your CSV should already exist with a matching SKU or ID when using this option, otherwise they are skipped.

Yeah I’m conscious of the Update setting, thanks Caleb.

In cases like this where I’ve experienced a failure I sometimes delete the products first then re-import. I generally use the Update option for when I’m changing something about the product by choice, like a patch.
