Also after upgrading it said I was running 2.7.1 then the next day it said I was running 2.7.0. Then later in the day it said 2.7.1
Also my theme shows 2 different versions. I am using Gear, one time I log in it says 1.1.1 then another time it says 1.2.4 (I upgraded a few days ago)
I am really confused.

At about the same time I went over to a new server and a new database. However it seems WordPress is still using the old database as I went in a short while ago and deleted the old database in my php admin area and the whole blog disappeared. So I had to upload to the old database from my backup and he presto I have the website back again.
When I went over to the new server I followed all the instructions and update my config file with the new database etc.
Not sure what went wrong

Do you think a complete new re-install would be best?
Do you think a complete new re-install would be best?
Not sure that’s necessary.
Please provide link that shows the ‘two different’ themes.
I’m guessing you have two different installations going.

Thanks for helping. I have loaded a screenshot here http://www.primedentalbudapest.co.uk/wordpress_different_themes.doc
You can see that sometimes the theme Gear is 1.1.1 and sometimes it is 1.2.4. I upgraded a few days ago. It is not just a Gear problem it did this with 2.7 and 2.7.1, also with users – different all the time.
I can’t understand if the config file is pointing to the new database why is it getting information from both the new and the old database.
When I deleted the old database information the website did not exist so I had to reload the backup to the old database.

This gets worse. I use Dreamweaver and I “got” the wp-config file to check the settings. I see my local file is now dated 2 December 1601. Wow!
Those two examples show
http://dentistforum.co.uk/
and
http://www.dentistforum.co.uk/
Make sure your Settings->General is saying http://dentistforum.co.uk/ for both Blog and WordPress URL.

At your old server, rename the wp-config.php file to wp-config-old.php to make sure that blog isn’t being used.

I’ve gone back to the old server and the old database. Everything seems reasonable now. Now I am going to delete all of the files on the new server and start again. Hopefully the transfer will go better this time.
Not sure what you are doing, but somewhere you need to point your domain from one server to the other.
Will mark this resolved for now.

Your help has been really great and it is all sorted now. Thanks for spotting the www/non www issue. The www DNS was pointing to the new server and the non www DNS was pointing to the old server. A really simple thing that caused so much trouble.
I have also renamed the old wp-config file, good advice.
Thanks
