ZeroGPT AI Content Detector

Description

Check AI before you publish. ZeroGPT AI Content Detector adds an AI-content check to the WordPress
editor, so you can review a post or page for signs of AI-generated text before it goes live — without
leaving the editing screen.

If you write with AI assistance, work with freelance or outsourced writers, or simply want an
editorial second opinion before publishing, this plugin gives you a quick, clear read on whether a
piece of content appears AI-generated, right where you’re already writing.

How it works:

  • Adds a compact detection panel to the block editor, the Classic Editor, and Elementor. Click “Check
for AI content” and get an AI-likelihood score (shown as a simple donut chart), a confidence level,
and when the content was last checked.
  • Content changes? Click “Recheck” to check the current draft again — nothing runs automatically
unless you choose to turn that on.
  • One settings screen, Settings ZeroGPT AI Content Detector, to connect your ZeroGPT account, see your
current usage, and adjust detection preferences.
  • Your ZeroGPT Developer API key is stored encrypted in your WordPress database and used only on your
server — it is never sent to the browser, the editor’s JavaScript, or any REST response.
  • Clear usage visibility: see how many characters you’ve used and how many you have left, right on
    the settings screen.

What this plugin deliberately does NOT do:

  • It never modifies, rewrites, or highlights your content. No markup is ever written into
post_content, and nothing about how your posts save, autosave, or publish is changed. Every
publishing decision stays yours — this plugin only reports what it observes.
  • It never retries a failed check automatically. If a check fails (rate limit, quota, timeout, or a
temporary outage), you decide when to try again.
  • It never scans content automatically on save or publish. Automatic checking, if you turn it on, only
ever runs in the editor while a post is open.

A note on accuracy and SEO: no AI-detection service can guarantee perfect accuracy on every text, and
this plugin does not claim otherwise. Content that reads as AI-generated is not automatically against
search engine guidelines — this plugin is an editorial quality check, not an SEO requirement, to help
you make an informed decision before you hit publish.

External services

This plugin requires either a ZeroGPT Developer API key, or a connected ZeroGPT account, to function.
When you (or, if you enable it, automatic checking) request a check, this plugin sends the plain text
of the content currently open in the editor to ZeroGPT, over HTTPS, from your server (never directly
from the visitor’s or editor’s browser). This happens only when a check is explicitly requested by an
editor, or when automatic checking is enabled and the content meets the built-in length threshold —
never on every keystroke, and never in the background outside the editor.

If this site is connected to a ZeroGPT account (rather than a Developer API key), content you check is
sent under that account and counts against that account’s own detection allowance, and ZeroGPT can
associate these checks with the connected account. The account’s email address is never stored on this
site in full — only a masked form, for display. No content is transmitted during the connection process
itself; connecting only exchanges an authorization code for a token, never post data.

This data is sent:
* What: the plain text of the post/page content currently being edited (normalized; no images,
files, or unrelated site data).
* When: when an editor clicks “Check for AI content” / “Recheck”, or when automatic checking is
enabled and content is edited.
* Why: this is required to produce an AI-likelihood score — there is no local/offline way to
perform this analysis, and the plugin does not claim otherwise.

No other WordPress data (site settings, other users’ content, visitor data, etc.) is ever sent to
ZeroGPT by this plugin.

Privacy

See “External services” above for exactly what is transmitted, when, and why. This plugin also adds a
paragraph to Settings Privacy Privacy Policy Guide describing this so you can include it in your
own site’s published privacy policy. Only enable automatic checking, or run manual checks, on content
you are authorized to share externally for this purpose.

Installation

  1. Upload the zerogpt-ai-content-detector folder to /wp-content/plugins/, or install the zip via Plugins Add New.
  2. Activate the plugin — you’ll be taken straight to its setup screen.
  3. Sign in to ZeroGPT (or create a free account), create a Developer API key, and paste it in to connect.
  4. Open any post or page in the editor — the detection panel appears in the editor sidebar (block editor), as a box in the right-hand column (Classic Editor), or as a floating panel (Elementor).

FAQ

Does this change my published content?

No. This plugin is read-only with respect to your content: it reads the current draft to send for
analysis and displays a result, but never writes anything back into the post.

Does checking content ever go anywhere other than ZeroGPT?

No. See “External services” above for exactly what is sent and when.

Is detection 100% accurate?

No AI-detection service can guarantee perfect accuracy on every text, and this plugin does not claim
otherwise. The score shown is the same score ZeroGPT’s Developer API returns for your account.

Does using this plugin affect my Google rankings?

Using — or not using — this plugin has no direct effect on search rankings. Google’s guidance is that
AI-generated content is not automatically against its Search guidelines; the concern is low-quality,
mass-produced content. This plugin is an editorial check to help you make an informed decision before
publishing, not an SEO requirement or a ranking guarantee.

Why does it say “API access disabled” even though I entered a valid-looking key?

Developer API access is a feature of your ZeroGPT account, separate from whether the key itself is valid.
Check your ZeroGPT dashboard, or contact ZeroGPT support, to confirm Developer API access is enabled for
your account.

Does it retry automatically if a check fails?

No, by design. Ask a human to click “Recheck” again once whatever caused the failure (rate limit, quota,
temporary outage) has cleared.
