Description
Zalu embeds an AI chat widget on your website. The assistant answers visitor questions exclusively based on your own website content (no hallucinated answers), in the visitor’s language, and links directly to the matching page or product.
This plugin relies on the third-party service zalu.ai. A Zalu account is required (a free plan is available). All configuration — appearance, content ingestion, analytics, lead forms — happens in the Zalu dashboard; the plugin itself only connects your site and loads the widget.
How it works:
- Install and activate the plugin.
- Go to Settings Zalu and click “Mit Zalu verbinden” (Connect with Zalu).
- Sign in (or register) at Zalu and confirm — done. The site key is stored automatically.
Without a connected site key, no widget is loaded and no data is sent anywhere.

1. Zalu (the service this plugin connects to)
- What it is: Zalu (https://zalu.ai) provides the AI chat assistant embedded by this plugin.
- What data is sent and when: When a page with the active widget loads, the widget JavaScript is fetched from your Zalu app domain (default app.zalu.ai) together with your public site key. When a visitor sends a chat message, the message content, a pseudonymous visitor identifier, and page/domain information are transmitted to Zalu to generate the answer. During the one-click connect flow, your site URL and a one-time code are exchanged with Zalu to obtain the site key.

2. Google Gemini (subprocessor used by Zalu)
- Zalu generates answers with Google’s Gemini API; chat content is transmitted to Google for this purpose.

No external service is contacted before a Zalu account is connected (no site key no widget, no requests).

Installation
- Upload the
zalu-aifolder to/wp-content/plugins/(or install the ZIP via Plugins Add New Upload Plugin). - Activate the plugin.
- Go to Settings Zalu and click “Mit Zalu verbinden” — sign in, done.
If you previously used the plugin under its old name (ki-website-assistent), your stored site key is migrated automatically; please deactivate and remove the old plugin.

No. The widget does not set cookies. It stores a pseudonymous identifier in the browser’s local storage to operate the chat (recognizing the visitor within a session, abuse protection). There is no cross-site tracking.

Where is the data processed?
