External services
This plugin connects to the WriteAlt API at https://writealt.com/api/v1 to validate the configured API key, retrieve account and credit information, and generate alt text for selected images.
When testing the connection or refreshing account information, the plugin sends the configured WriteAlt API key. When alt text is generated, the plugin sends the selected WordPress image attachment URL, selected language, selected writing style, optional keywords, and the configured API key. If automatic generation on upload is enabled, the same image URL and generation settings are sent when a new image attachment is uploaded.
The WriteAlt API response is used to display account information and save generated alt text to WordPress attachment metadata. The plugin does not send analytics or tracking data.

Image compression and WebP conversion run locally in the user’s browser or WordPress environment. The plugin includes its compression script locally and does not load compression files from an external CDN.

Installation
- Upload the
writealt-image-seo-alt-textfolder to/wp-content/plugins/. - Activate the plugin through the WordPress Plugins menu.
- Go to WriteAlt > Settings.
- Enter your WriteAlt API key.
- Configure your SEO and generation settings.
- Start optimizing your media library and WooCommerce product images.

Does automatic upload generation affect WooCommerce product images?

Yes. When enabled, WriteAlt runs on newly uploaded image attachments, including images uploaded while editing WooCommerce products.
