WingMind AI

Description

WingMind AI is an intelligent AI assistant built into your WordPress admin. Ask questions, make real-time changes, and perform live updates directly from the dashboard, with no external agent or separate tools required.

Created by Web Bird Digital, WingMind AI started as an internal agency tool and is now a Gemini-powered partner for content, design, and site administration.

Packed with powerful features

  • Fullscreen admin agent — Chat-style overlay via Dashboard WingMind AI or Screen Options tab (top-right).
  • Block editor sidebar — In-context AI in the post or site editor with Ask and Agent modes, plus instant undo for document edits.
  • Broad agent abilities — Manage posts, pages, templates, patterns, media, menus, users, site settings, plugins, and themes.
  • Change audit log & rollback — Before/after snapshots stored safely. Inspect logs under Tools AI Audit Log and trigger rollbacks straight into the agent.
  • Upload images and documents — Drag and drop images, PDFs, and other files into chat. The agent can reference them for content or add them to the site.
  • Accurate to your brand — Set a site description, design styles, copywriting tones, and custom rules so the agent matches your brand.

Flexible agent modes

  • Ask mode — Safe and read-only. Ask questions, check settings, and explore your site without making changes.
  • Agent mode — Create, edit, and update pages, posts, and media. Confirmation is required before risky updates.
  • Site editor mode — Site-wide design and structure: headers, footers, navigation, global styles, and templates.
  • Plan mode — Draft and refine markdown plans before execution. The agent writes plan files only; switch to Agent mode to carry them out.

Features & integrations

The agent can help with (and much more):

  • Block editor — Edit any page, post, or other content on your website.
  • Site templates — Edit templates on sites running a block theme.
  • Site settings — Manage colours, fonts, and other site options.
  • WooCommerce — Store management and product workflow automation when WooCommerce is active.
  • Gravity Forms — Automated form and submission handling when Gravity Forms is active.
  • WordPress Abilities API — Deeper system integration when that API is available.

Handy command ideas

Try prompts like these in the admin dashboard or block editor:

  • “Update the About Us page with our new team member James. Their photo is attached.”
  • “Design a pricing page with a clear plan comparison.”
  • “Audit the site navigation and propose a clearer menu structure.”
  • “Create a contact form with name, email, phone, and message fields.”
  • “Audit product titles, short descriptions, and categories for clarity and SEO.”
  • “Draft a new version of my homepage with an SEO optimised layout.”

Gemini connection

Choose a managed subscription or bring your own Google Gemini API key (BYOK).

Privacy and local data

  • Stored in WordPress — Plugin settings, optional BYOK key (site option), chat sessions, agent audit log entries (90-day retention), and setup state. Administrators may also store a personal Gemini key in the browser (localStorage; origin-scoped, not synced to Web Bird).
  • Plan files — Plans drafted in Plan mode are markdown files under wp-content/uploads/wbdai-plans/, grouped by status (open, closed, cancelled). Plan mode and plan tools require the upload_files capability. On Apache the plugin writes an .htaccess that denies direct web access; plans are only ever served over REST to logged-in users with upload_files. On nginx, deny that location yourself:

    location ^~ /wp-content/uploads/wbdai-plans/ {
    deny all;
    return 403;
    }

  • Sent to Google — When the agent runs: your messages, attachments, tool results, and assembled system context. BYOK and personal keys call Google directly from the browser; managed keys are minted via Web Bird then used the same way.
  • Sent to Web Bird — Only with an active managed subscription: activation tokens, site URL, site secret, usage/telemetry events, and billing actions. No telemetry is sent when you use BYOK only.
  • Not collected from visitors — The agent UI and external calls run in wp-admin for logged-in users with edit_posts; front-end visitors are not tracked by this plugin.
  • Uninstall — Deactivate keeps all plugin data. Delete keeps data unless you enable Delete plugin data when this plugin is deleted under Settings WingMind AI (off by default). When that option is on, delete removes settings, chat sessions, the AI audit log, and Plan mode files under uploads/wbdai-plans/. Post meta the agent may have written (for example SEO descriptions) is always left on your content. See the FAQ below.

    External services

These requests run in wp-admin for logged-in users with edit_posts. Site visitors never hit these services.

Google Gemini API

WingMind AI uses Google Gemini (https://generativelanguage.googleapis.com/v1beta/) to reply in chat, read attachments, and run tools.

When you send a message, the browser sends Google the API key, the conversation, uploads, tool results, and site context. That context can include settings, block library summaries, the open document, and loaded skill playbooks. The same payload goes out when the agent continues a tool turn.

A managed subscription gets a short-lived key from Web Bird, then the browser still calls Google. BYOK and a personal browser key use the key you supplied.

This service is provided by Google: Gemini API Additional Terms of Service, Google Privacy Policy.

Web Bird subscription backend

A managed subscription uses https://aibackend.webbird.net.au for activation, billing, key minting, quotas, and telemetry. BYOK does not use this service.

Each authenticated request includes your site URL. Activation also sends the activation token. Telemetry reports per-turn usage for billing and quotas, including event id, optional turn id, event type, token counts, and Flex inference.

This service is provided by Web Bird Digital: terms of use, privacy policy.

Web Bird Digital domain names

The following domain names are officially owned and managed by Web Bird Digital: web.bird.digital webbird.com.au webbird.net.au wbd.au webbirddigital.net.au webbirddigital.com.au
Where data, including emails or managed connection setup details are sent to any of these domains, this data will be handled as outlined in our privacy policy.

Installation

Get WingMind AI configured in four steps. See the product site for the full guide.

1. Download & install

  1. Install the plugin from Plugins Add New, or download the plugin zip directly.
  2. In WordPress, go to Plugins Add New Upload Plugin.
  3. Choose the zip, click Install Now, then Activate.

2. Connect a key

For simple setup, click Subscribe. To manage your own connection, add a Google Gemini API key.

3. Site defaults

Complete the setup wizard, or set defaults under Settings WingMind AI. An AI-generated default appears after a few seconds to help you get started.

4. Launch the agent

Open the agent from Dashboard WingMind AI, or use the AI toolbar button in the block editor. A good first prompt:

Review my homepage from an SEO perspective and suggest improvements.

Requirements

  • WordPress 6.6 or later
  • PHP 8.0 or later
  • A Gemini connection: managed subscription, or your own API key

The agent is built for the WordPress block editor. Classic or third-party page builders (for example Elementor, Beaver Builder, Divi, WPBakery) are not supported for AI editing.

FAQ

Do I need my own API key?

No. A managed subscription includes access to Gemini APIs through Web Bird’s account, along with included credit toward API usage. Advanced users can connect their own Google Gemini API key instead. See pricing.

Is WingMind AI safe on live websites?

Yes. Ask mode is read-only. Agent mode requires explicit confirmation for sensitive actions. Every change is tracked in the audit log so you can inspect or roll it back.

What plugins and tools are supported?

WingMind AI works with the WordPress block editor, block themes, site settings, and the media library. WooCommerce and Gravity Forms tools appear when those plugins are active. Many other plugins can be reached through the WordPress Abilities API when it is available.

Can I undo or rollback changes?

Yes. In the editor sidebar, use Undo last change. In the fullscreen agent, ask it to revert its previous action, or go to Tools AI Audit Log to inspect history and trigger a rollback.

Does it work with Elementor, Divi, or other page builders?

No. WingMind AI edits content through the block editor. If a classic or third-party page builder is installed, the plugin shows an admin warning. Use the block editor for pages you want the agent to edit.

What happens when I uninstall the plugin?

Deactivate leaves all data in place so you can reactivate later.

Delete (Plugins Delete) keeps plugin data by default. To remove settings, chat sessions, the AI audit log, and Plan mode files under uploads/wbdai-plans/, enable Delete plugin data when this plugin is deleted on Settings WingMind AI, save, then delete the plugin. Site content the agent edited (posts, pages, media) and any post meta it added (for example SEO descriptions) are never removed.

Changelog

2.6.1

  • Plan file storage now uses WordPress WP_Filesystem for create, read, write, and move operations (Plugin Check compliance).
  • Plan mode, plan tools, and /plans REST routes now require the upload_files capability.
  • Opt-in uninstall purge removes Plan mode markdown under uploads/wbdai-plans/.

2.6.0

  • Plan mode — New fullscreen agent mode for drafting and refining markdown plans before execution. The agent writes plan files only; site changes stay in Agent mode.
  • Raised the per-turn tool calling limit from 60 to 200.
  • When the tool limit is hit, a Continue button resumes the turn with full conversation context.

2.5.5

  • HTML file attachments in chat (.html, .htm) are inlined as raw text for the agent, same as .txt files.

2.5.4

  • Rate-limit retries still wait 60 seconds, but only show a one-time “Rate limit reached. Retrying in 60 seconds…” notice. Later cooldown pauses in the same chat no longer display a countdown.

2.5.3

  • Automatically wait 60 seconds and retry when Gemini returns HTTP 429 during a chat. Further tool-response rounds in that chat pause an extra 5 seconds per rate-limit hit.

2.5.2

  • Subscription activation deep-links now land on a Settings confirmation; credentials are stored only after a nonce-checked Connect.
  • Agent option tools (get_options / update_options) and audit snapshots now use an allowlist of curated core settings, REST-registered settings, and enabled plugin families (Yoast, Rank Math, WooCommerce). Nested secret-bearing fields are redacted. Extend via wbdai_options_allowed_keys / wbdai_options_allowed_key_patterns.

2.5.1

  • Bug fix in WBDAI_Agent_Handoff.

2.5.0

  • Added SDK for external plugins to integrate with chat (composer handoff).
  • Added ability for Agents to manage post parent for hierarchical post types.
  • Added ability for Agents to inspect media.

2.4.9

  • Plugin rename to “WingMind AI”.

2.4.8

  • Fixed fullscreen agent failing to mount when the tab injector script ran after the app bundle; tab assets now enqueue first and the bundle depends on wbdai-fullscreen-agent-tab.
  • Updated confirm action prompt to be more succinct.

2.4.7 (beta)

  • Enqueue the fullscreen agent tab CSS and JavaScript through WordPress (admin_enqueue_scripts) instead of inline <style> / <script> tags.
  • Prefix the block-editor localize object as wbdaiBuilderVars (was aiBuilderVars); settings AJAX config now lives on wbdaiSettingsInitial.
  • Audit and confirm snapshots no longer read denylisted option names (API keys, secrets, Google AI connector key); those values are stored as [redacted].
  • Document Google Gemini and Web Bird terms of service and privacy policy links in the readme.

2.4.6

  • Added DOCX support for chat attachments.
  • Fixed rare crash on replace_block / delete_blocks / update_block_attributes tools.
  • Updated get_post_full to resolve post_type when it is not passed directly.

2.4.4

  • Simplified agent system instructions for clearer, shorter prompts.
  • Fast mode no longer applies extra tool restrictions.
  • Agent skills playbooks, sitemap tool, page-builder compatibility warnings, and subscription telemetry refinements.
  • Uninstall data deletion is opt-in on Settings (off by default).

2.4.3

  • Initial public release: fullscreen admin agent, block editor sidebar, Ask / Agent / Site Editor modes, audit log with rollback, and WooCommerce / Gravity Forms tools when those plugins are active.
