The WProofreader plugin automatically checks spelling and grammar in multiple languages on websites, built with WordPress 4.x, and the new WordPress 5.x.

The plugin works in two comfortable modes:

  • instant, underlining mistakes while you type, and
  • dialog, proofreading all the text at once in a separate pop-up window.

Here are a few highlights of how the plugin can be useful for your websites:

The Pro version proofreads in 15 languages, plus spell checking in Finnish and Norwegian Bokmal. You can also extend the spell checking with any of 150+ additional languages and the specialized dictionaries such as medical or legal.

6 languages are spell checked in the Free version.

The Pro version is able of checking of not only spelling, but grammar in 15 languages as well.

The Pro version provides an option of adding specialized terminology, acronyms, proper names, etc. into Personal User Dictionaries, stored in the cloud and available for review and management from any browser, or to Global Custom Dictionaries, managed at the subscription admin level and available across all the websites under given license key.

In the Free version the users can create their Personal User Dictionaries as well. However, they will not be saved to cloud, so the dictionary can only be used from a single browser and device. The Global Custom Dictionaries are not available in the Free version.

The Pro version proofreads up to 200 million words per year, and can be used in up to 5 websites.

The free version checks spelling in up to to 50 thousand words per day on one website. Once the limit is reached the proofreading stops until the next day.

The plugin seamlessly integrates with websites, built in WordPress 4.x, and the new WordPress 5.x with the Gutenberg editor.

The following browsers are supported:

  • Chrome

This is the third time I've edited this review. My first was negative, 2 stars. I wrote that it wasn't working in Gutenberg at all and was useless if I had to click in each and every block to find error suggestions. The developer responded right away and told me to give them a chance to work on that problem. They did! And now I can say with absolute surety that this is the first and only plugin at this time that grammar checks ALL Gutenberg blocks on your screen without having to click on each one. I am a paid user of Grammarly Premium, and after two years, they have not been able to make this happen. I am impressed. So, kudos to the team and the fast response to the issue. I've only used the basic, free plugin so far so don't have access to all the features yet. But I can already tell it's an excellent product and does what it does well. I wish they would make a Chrome extension as the plugin works so well in WordPress so it would be nice to have it in the browser for all sites (other blogs, social media, etc), but that's no fault of the plugin. It is a WordPress plugin, after all! But hopefully, they'll consider it in the future. Their pro version is very reasonably priced but I haven't used it yet. The free version however is excellent at checking spelling and suggesting some other minor grammar issues. It even allows you to add words to the dictionary easily. I was also impressed when I purposefully added letters to words and the plugin was able to figure out what the words were supposed to be. The support team is responsive, the plugin rocks, and I highly recommend it.

This seems to be the only spell checker with more languages available. Why isn't it updated for newer WP versions? I'd love to use and buy it, but not if it's not compatible anymore.
