Description
Some product details deserve to be seen before a shopper opens the product page. A refill option, a small production run or a made-to-order item can be easy to miss in a long description.
WadeBush Product Labels lets you write that detail on the product itself. Add “Refill available”, “Small batch” or another accurate note in Product data > General. Products with an empty label stay unlabelled. For temporary notes, choose a Display label until date; fresh page requests stop showing the label after that date in the store timezone. The Label review desk lists saved wording, end dates and expired labels with edit links.
Labels sit in the normal page layout: before the image on classic product cards and above the title in the classic single-product summary. They do not cover the product photograph or replace WooCommerce’s sale flash. Shared colours and a pill or rectangle shape keep the design consistent across your catalogue.
What Free includes
- A separate plain-text label on each product, up to 80 characters.
- Optional end dates and a paginated Label review desk to spot outdated product notes.
- Shared background and text colours.
- Pill and rectangle shapes.
- Separate display switches for classic shop cards and single-product summaries.
- Support for classic WooCommerce product loops and product shortcodes.
- An option to retain data or remove it when uninstalling on a single-site installation.
Every feature included in this plugin works without payment, an account, a licence key, a trial or a usage quota. There is no limit on the number of products you can label.
Free and the separate Pro product
Free focuses on individual, merchant-written product labels, optional expiry dates and a review desk, with shared styling. WadeBush Product Badge Designer Pro is a separately distributed alternative for one store-wide badge with four corner positions, three shapes and optional pulse or bounce animation.
Pro operates independently. It does not require Free and does not import the per-product labels created here. Use one badge plugin at a time to avoid duplicate output. No premium code is included in this WordPress.org plugin.
Template and editor support
WooCommerce must be installed and active. Use the classic product editor to set the label. This version uses WooCommerce’s standard classic template hooks. Classic themes such as Storefront and classic product shortcodes are the intended storefront integrations.
Product Collection blocks, block-based product templates, the newer block product editor and custom page-builder product widgets are not supported. A theme that removes the standard hooks may not display labels. Test your actual theme and shop layout before using labels on a live store.
Variable products use the parent product’s label. Labels do not switch when a shopper selects a variation. Sale flashes are left untouched. A label is written by the merchant; the plugin does not automatically detect sales, new stock, best sellers, certifications or trending products.
Privacy and data
The plugin makes no external requests and includes no telemetry, remote assets, cookies or visitor tracking. A Pro link appears only in the plugin settings and this description; it is not added to your storefront.
Settings are stored in the WordPress options table, and label text is stored as product metadata. Deactivation retains both. Uninstall retains them by default. On a single-site installation, select the permanent deletion option before deleting the plugin if you want its own data removed. Multisite deletion retains data; activate and configure separately on individual sites.
Source and licensing
All PHP and CSS files are original, human-readable source. There are no bundled third-party runtime libraries, build tools, compiled scripts or external services. Distributed under GPLv2 or later.

FAQ
-
Does this create labels automatically?
-
No. You choose the exact text on each product. Use factual wording and only make claims you can substantiate.
-
Is this a limited trial?
-
No. All included features work without a time limit, product quota or payment. Pro is separate software with a different store-wide badge workflow.
-
Why is no label showing?
-
Check that the product has a saved label, labels are enabled and the relevant display switch is selected. Confirm that your storefront uses classic WooCommerce hooks. Product Collection blocks and block-based product templates are outside this version’s support. Clear page caches after changing a label.
-
Does expiry clear cached pages?
-
No. Expiry is checked on fresh requests using the WordPress store timezone, at the end of the chosen day. Full-page caches and CDNs can retain old output. Set cache lifetimes to suit your labels and clear cached shop and product pages when a label expires. Expired wording stays saved for review; no cron job or remote service is used.
-
Will it work on variable products?
-
The parent product’s label appears. Variation-specific labels and switching are not included.
-
Will it replace the sale badge?
-
No. The existing sale flash stays in place. Labels use the normal flow of the layout rather than a corner overlay.
-
What happens when I remove it?
-
Labels and settings are kept by default. On a single site, enable permanent deletion under WooCommerce > Product Labels before deleting the plugin to remove its own settings and labels. Multisite data is retained.
