Description
From 3 January 2027 the Finnish Alcohol Act allows licensed home delivery of alcoholic drinks bought from retail. Delivery licences can be applied for from 3 November 2026. This plugin helps a WooCommerce shop apply the delivery rules at checkout and mark alcohol orders for the courier. Everything described here is included, with no limits, trials or license keys.
- Alcohol settings per product and per category: an alcohol yes/no flag, alcohol content (ABV %) and drink type (fermented or other). Categories pass their defaults to subcategories and products. The product screen shows whether each product can be delivered.
- Strength limits: from retail, only fermented drinks up to 8.0 % and other drinks up to 5.5 % can be delivered. Stronger drinks can only be collected from the store. Drinks up to 2.8 % are not restricted. A product with missing information is treated as “collection only” until you complete it.
- Shipping methods: mark which shipping methods are licensed home deliveries and which are store collection. If the cart contains alcohol, other methods are hidden, and carts with “collection only” drinks can only be collected (store collection is then selected automatically). Alcohol is left out of the free shipping minimum amount.
- Age confirmation: a required checkbox when the cart contains alcohol. The confirmation and its time are saved to the order.
- Handover time: the customer picks a handover window for licensed deliveries. Windows are configurable but are always within the legal hours 09:00–21:00. Delivery days, lead time and weekdays are configurable, and no dates before 3.1.2027 are offered.
- Order marking:
- an “Alcohol 18+” badge in the orders list and an alcohol box on the order screen
- a note in order emails and the customer’s order view
- the text “Sisältää alkoholia – tarkista henkilöllisyys luovutuksessa” on packing slips (“PDF Invoices & Packing Slips for WooCommerce”)

Important
This plugin is a tool, not legal advice. It does not replace your delivery licence (toimituslupa), your couriers’ delivery passes (toimituspassi), your self-monitoring plan (omavalvontasuunnitelma) or the identity check at handover. The person handing over the drinks must:
- check the recipient’s ID
- refuse delivery to anyone under age or visibly intoxicated
- not deliver to prohibited places such as schools, day-care centres or health care units
The free version does not check addresses against prohibited places. Check the current guidance of the Finnish Supervisory Agency (Lupa- ja valvontavirasto, LVV).

This plugin does not connect to any external service.
Privacy
For orders that contain alcohol, the plugin stores the following on the order:
- the customer’s age confirmation and its time
- the chosen handover time
- the delivery type
- the delivery licence holder
- a log of events (checkout, and handovers or refusals recorded by extensions)
A suggested text is added to the privacy policy guide. No data is sent outside your site.

Installation
- Install and activate WooCommerce, then this plugin.
- Go to WooCommerce > Settings > Alcohol delivery.
- Choose your licensed delivery and store collection methods, check the handover windows and enter the delivery licence holder and number.
- Set the alcohol details on your alcohol product categories (Products > Categories) or on individual products (Product data > General).

Which drinks can be delivered?

From retail: fermented drinks (beer, cider, wine, fermented long drinks) up to 8.0 % ABV and other drinks (for example long drinks made from spirits) up to 5.5 % ABV. Stronger drinks can only be delivered from Alko or cross-border distance selling, so in this plugin they are “collection only”.

What if a product has no alcohol content set?

It is treated as “collection only” until you set the content. The same applies to drinks between 5.5 % and 8.0 % without a drink type. The product screen shows the status.

Can I offer handover windows in the evening?

Only until 21:00. Windows outside 09:00–21:00 are rejected when you save the settings, and are never offered at checkout.

Can I use parcel lockers?

No. The law requires personal handover to the recipient, so do not mark parcel lockers or unattended drop-offs as licensed deliveries.

Does the plugin verify the customer’s age?

The customer confirms their age at checkout. The actual check is the ID check at handover. Strong electronic identification (bank ID) is not required by law. Extensions can add it through the
vkp_alcohol_validate_checkoutaction. -
Can I deliver before 3.1.2027?

No. Deliveries are allowed from 3 January 2027, and the plugin does not offer earlier handover dates.
