UNLOOK

Description

UNLOOK is an AI receptionist for small business websites. It answers visitors’ questions from the business info you give it, day or night, takes their name and number or email, can book a free time, and emails you every lead.

This plugin puts your UNLOOK chat on your WordPress site without pasting any code:

  1. Install and activate the plugin.
  2. Go to Settings UNLOOK and press Connect UNLOOK.
  3. Log in to UNLOOK, check it’s your site, and press Connect this site. You come straight back to WordPress, and the chat is on every page.

You need an UNLOOK account. Your answers, leads, chats and how the chat looks are all managed in your UNLOOK dashboard at app.unlook.in.

The plugin keeps a single setting: your business’s UNLOOK id (the same public id the chat carries on every page). It stores no passwords or keys, and UNLOOK cannot change anything on your site: the only way the setting is ever written is your own click on Connect in wp-admin. Disconnect (Settings UNLOOK) removes the chat from your site straight away.

External services

This plugin connects your site to UNLOOK, the service it exists for. UNLOOK is run by UNLOOK (https://unlook.in).

  • When you press Connect UNLOOK (Settings UNLOOK), your browser goes to https://app.unlook.in/connect/wordpress with your site’s address (its home URL), the address of this settings page, and a one-time check value. Nothing is sent before you press Connect.
  • When you come back from UNLOOK, your site sends the one-time code UNLOOK gave you, and your site’s address, to https://app.unlook.in/api/connect/wordpress/exchange. UNLOOK answers with your business’s UNLOOK id, which the plugin stores.
  • Once connected, on every page of your site, visitors’ browsers load the chat from https://app.unlook.in (the loader script /loader/v1.js and the chat itself). When a visitor chats, their messages, and any name, phone number or email they choose to type, are sent to UNLOOK so it can answer them and pass the lead to you. The chat keeps a random chat id in the visitor’s browser (local storage) so a conversation carries on after a reload.
  • While you are connecting, UNLOOK’s server asks your site one question, to confirm that your site itself asked to connect: a request to your site’s address with a check value (?unlook_check=…). Your site answers with a second check value and nothing else. It answers only during a connect you started (for up to 30 minutes).

FAQ

Do I need an UNLOOK account?

Yes. The plugin connects your site to your UNLOOK account; it doesn’t work on its own. Start at https://unlook.in.

Does it work on WordPress.com?

On WordPress.com plans that allow plugins, yes. On plans that don’t, add UNLOOK’s one line of code from your UNLOOK dashboard instead.

Will it slow my site down?

The chat loads after your page (deferred), from UNLOOK’s servers, in one small script.

How do I remove the chat?

Settings UNLOOK Disconnect, or deactivate the plugin. Deleting the plugin also deletes its setting.

Where do I change what the chat says?

In your UNLOOK dashboard (app.unlook.in): Business info for the answers, Settings for the welcome message and how it looks.

Changelog

1.2.0

  • Removed the “connect from the UNLOOK dashboard” route and everything behind it: no Application Passwords, no REST API setting, no scheduled clean-up. The plugin now changes nothing on your site except when you press Connect or Disconnect yourself in wp-admin.

1.1.2

  • Security: when you come back from UNLOOK, your site now checks its own security token first, before it reads anything else, and only on Settings UNLOOK.
  • The message shown after you connect or disconnect now appears only when your own site sent you to it.

1.1.1

  • The access you approve when connecting from the UNLOOK dashboard is now also removed by your own site, automatically, so there is never anything for you to tidy up.

1.1.0

  • Connect from your UNLOOK dashboard in one click: approve UNLOOK on your own WordPress and the chat is on. The plugin’s one setting (your business’s UNLOOK id) is now available to administrators through WordPress’s REST API, which is how UNLOOK fills it in.

1.0.1

  • Your site now confirms to UNLOOK that it was the one asking to connect, so nobody else can link your site’s address to their UNLOOK account.
  • The settings page in UNLOOK’s own style.

1.0.0

  • First release: connect in one click from Settings UNLOOK, the chat on every page, disconnect any time.
