Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
Visit Settings tab of the plugin and enter “payment settings” and general settings.
After you have setup your settings you can go to “Add Auction” tab to add your auction.
After you have added auctions, go to “Pages” inside your admin dashboard and add a new page.
Enter this text “[wdm_auction_listing]” as a shortcode inside this new page and publish it.
If you have a Default WordPress theme installed then the page you published (on step 6) will be accessible through top menu bar. NOTE: For Custom themes you would be required to add the page on top menu bar.
This page is responsible for displaying all live auctions. If you click a specific auction on this page, it’ll open specific auction page where your visitors can place bids and perform all actions related to tht auction.
I purchased the Pro version and found this plugin is quite easy to set up on the back end and user friendly for visitors.
The support for Pro has been great with quick replies and solutions.
Really like the plugin, it perfectly fits the plan we have for running an auction to raise funds for a good cause. Works well with other plugins, e.g. to customize the wordpress user registration/login.
We used this plugin for our strong kids campaign for our non profit organization. We were having issues with the scrolling not working. I emailed Nitesh and within a few days he got back to me. He was able to resolve our issue. Thank you !
A+ 5 stars
Plus the plugin is mobile compatible. Responsive!
This plugin is great to get an auction up and running quickly. If you want to do anything advanced is where you can run into road blocks.
Here are some road blocks and issues I’ve ran into.
Stylesheets aren’t set up properly. They are “enqueued” but not registered. Same for scripts. This means each and every page includes these files. Your homepage will have these scripts, your contact page etc. This is terrible for web page performance in most instances since it loads assets not needed for the page.
In an ideal world only the pages which include the shortcode would also use those scripts.
The problem with how they are included is if you want to over write or use WordPress’
dequeue_style or script you have to then pull those out and include them in your own theme under a different name and then register and queue them.
This also causes you to have to almost fight how the auctions are styled with specificity.
The included css files also use
!important throughout it. Making things a pain to over ride
There are old HTML tags used. For instance the tag
<center> is used. This tag was deprecated and considered obsolete in HTML4 so almost 17 years ago now.
There are table attributes and table children elements used without any opening or closing table tags.
In the backend user dashboard and the main auction feeder page there are tons of inline styles on elements, div’s being used for spans, text inside div’s with out paragraph tags or heading tags. Labels for checkboxes not in label tags just placed inline next to the check box.
Modal / dialog boxes use
Now if you’re just wanting to get going, not worried about page performance and don’t use a Content Security Policy then this hits all the right areas. The over all functions of this plugin do everything it says it will. Is easy to setup. I just wish it followed some more “modernish” best practices and allowed us the user to over ride styles and layout easier.
I used this for a while, trying it out with the free version and then upgrading to the PayPal invoice module. The PayPal invoice module wasn’t working properly, and there’s pretty much no support for that, despite it being paid for.
The free version was also spamming people who won auctions with notification emails with the result that they had to filter out emails from me.
Nitesh said that if I got the full version he could sort out the email spamming issue, so I did. But the support was intermittent and the email problem never went away. In the end I gave up out of frustration and found another plugin which works properly.
In the pro version, you also can’t run auctions without the bidders logging in, and the login feature uses the basic wordpress log pages. It’s a usability nightmare for a user, they don’t even get redirected back to the acuction after subscribing to the blog.
The basic auction feature works fine and looks pretty good, but in my opinion this isn’t ready for serious applications. YMMV
This plugin is amazing! Feature rich. Works great.
