Description
TrueCommunity turns a WordPress site into a place people come back to. Members post to a shared feed, react and reply to each other, form groups around what they care about, message each other privately, and work through courses — all inside your own site, on your own domain, with no third-party community platform in the middle.
The whole front end runs as a single-page React application on top of the WordPress REST API, so moving between the feed, a group and a lesson feels instant rather than like a page reload.
The activity feed
- Rich text composer with mentions, emoji, links and media attachments
- Image, video and file attachments, with a built-in lightbox
- Polls with live results
- Reactions, likes, bookmarks and threaded comments
- Pinned posts to keep announcements at the top
- @mentions that notify the person mentioned
Members and profiles
- A searchable member directory
- Profile pages with cover image, avatar, bio and location
- Clean profile URLs such as
/community/u/username - Member connections with friend requests, plus blocking for anyone who needs it
Groups
- Public, private and locked groups

- A separate feed inside every group

Private messages
- One-to-one and group conversations

Notifications
- An in-app notification bell covering every activity type
- Email templates carrying your own logo, sender name and footer text
- You decide which events send email, event by event
- Mail is handed off after the page response, so it never slows the site down
Built for site owners
- Turn Stories, Groups, Courses, Messages and Notifications on or off individually
- Your own community name, slug and light/dark brand logos
- Dark mode across the whole interface
- Per-page limits, upload size and attachment count you control

External services
TrueCommunity does not call any external service on its own, and it sends nothing anywhere in the background. The three services below are contacted by the visitor’s browser only when a member actually uses the feature that needs them.
YouTube
Used only when a member posts a YouTube link. The video is then embedded from youtube.com and its preview thumbnail is loaded from img.youtube.com, which sends the video ID and the visitor’s IP address to YouTube. No YouTube account or API key is involved.

Vimeo
Used only when a member posts a Vimeo link. The video is embedded from player.vimeo.com and its thumbnail is requested from the public Vimeo oEmbed endpoint (vimeo.com/api/oembed.json), which sends the video URL and the visitor’s IP address to Vimeo. No Vimeo account or API key is involved.

Google Maps
Used only when a member adds a location to their profile. A map for that location is embedded from maps.google.com, which sends the location text and the visitor’s IP address to Google. No API key is involved, and no location is collected unless the member types one in.

FAQ
-
Do my members need a separate account?
-
No. TrueCommunity uses your existing WordPress users. Anyone who can log in to the site is a member.
-
Does it work on multisite?
-
Yes. Activate it on each site that needs a community. Network activation is intentionally not supported, because each site keeps its own community content.
-
Can I switch features off?
-
Yes. Stories, Groups, Courses, Messages and Notifications are each a separate module you can disable from the settings screen.
-
Does it work with my theme?
-
The community runs on its own set of URLs with its own layout, so it does not depend on your theme’s templates. Your theme still handles the rest of the site.
-
Why is there a public login endpoint?
-
The community exposes three token endpoints under
compro/v1/auth(login,refresh,logout) so a companion mobile client can sign in against the same site. They are the only write routes reachable without a session, exactly likewp-login.php, and they must be public for the same reason.loginverifies credentials throughwp_authenticate(), so every login filter and security plugin on the site still applies, and repeated failures from one address are locked out for fifteen minutes. The token is signed with a per-site secret generated withrandom_bytes()on first use, stored in an option and never included in any REST response. It carries a fingerprint of the password hash, so changing a password invalidates every token issued for that account. The bundled web app itself uses ordinary cookie authentication and never touches these routes.
