Description
The I.T. Bear Guardian stops hackers and AI bots that rush the site. You choose how firm. wp-admin stays open.
This copy, from WordPress.org, uses one mode: Safety Lite. Safety Lite warns, then blocks, at 12 different pages in 3 minutes.
- Basic protection, stopping scraping and some hackers.
- A walk through the pages, prices, and products is warned, then stopped.
- Pages, posts, and the home page are covered.
- A real customer can still view, book, and pay. WordPress admin and the login stay open.
- Google and Bing’s own crawlers stay allowed.
- A block can be released from the list. The block email goes to the site admin.
- The country name on a block stays blank until you turn on Look up the country. When that is on, the blocked address is sent to ipwho.is. See External services.
- Turn it off on this screen. This copy does not need a Bear Cave account.
Bear Guardian is a separate plugin from The I.T. Bear. It is not part of this download, and this plugin does not install it. Open Go Premium in the WordPress menu to see what Bear Guardian adds, and to open its page.
Bear Guardian adds:
- Police State, FBI, and Custom. Stricter counts than Safety Lite, including two very fast gaps in a row on FBI and Custom.
- Whitelisted addresses. The office and a signed-in login are not blocked.
- One group of pages. That group can use a stricter rule than the rest of the site.
- Chosen countries. Block visits from the countries you pick. Google and Bing still stay allowed.
- Named AI crawlers. Refuse GPTBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Google-Extended, PerplexityBot, Bytespider, CCBot, and Amazonbot.
- A block that can end itself. Set a time, and that block lifts when the time is up.
External services
The I.T. Bear Guardian can look up the country of a blocked address. That lookup stays off until you tick Look up the country on The I.T. Bear Guardian screen and press Save.
When it is on, and an address is blocked, the plugin sends that address to ipwho.is. ipwho.is is run by ipwhois.io. The reply is the country name, which is shown on the block list and in the block email. No other data is sent. The lookup does not run for an address that is not blocked, and it does not run while the box is unticked.
This service is provided by ipwhois.io: terms of use, privacy policy.
