The checker

TaxKeel runs 42 checks against your WooCommerce tax settings and rates. It asks WooCommerce’s own tax engine what a customer in each place would pay, so what it reports is what your checkout does. For example:

• Taxes switched off while you have rates, or on with no rates at all
• “Calculate tax based on” set to your shop address, so your other rates never apply
• Rates that can never match: wrong country codes (UK instead of GB), province names instead of codes, a country in the city field, broken postcode ranges
• Mistyped rates (0.2 instead of 20), duplicates, and rates that stack by mistake
• Shipping not taxed where it normally is
• Cached pages showing visitors someone else’s tax
• Settings changed by a WooCommerce update – with a one-click restore
• EU: out-of-date VAT rates (Estonia 24%, Romania 21%, Finland 25.5%…), EU countries missing a rate under OSS, the €10,000 OSS threshold, prices shown without VAT
• Canada: Quebec QST set to compound (15.47% instead of 14.975%), Nova Scotia still at 15%, missing provinces, GST and QST merged into one line
• Australia & New Zealand: wrong GST rate, prices shown without GST, the “incl. GST” label
• US: state rates below the state rate, tax in states without sales tax, missing local rates
• WooCommerce Tax: a broken Jetpack connection, and more than one tax service fighting over the same orders

One-click fixes you can undo

Every fix shows a before-and-after preview. TaxKeel saves a snapshot of your tax settings and rates before changing anything, and every change can be undone from History. Nothing changes unless you click.

Setup wizard

Answer a few questions – where you’re based, where you’re registered – and TaxKeel sets up WooCommerce’s built-in tax for:

• EU VAT, including OSS (destination VAT for all 27 countries) or home-country VAT under the threshold
• UK VAT
• Canada GST/HST, plus PST, RST or QST where you’re registered, as separate lines
• Australian and New Zealand GST, including overseas sellers registered for low-value goods
• US state base rates (with a clear note that local rates aren’t included)

You see every rate and setting on a review screen before anything is saved.

Kept right

TaxKeel checks again every week, after WooCommerce updates, and whenever tax settings change. It emails you only when it finds something new. It also warns you 30 days before a known rate change in a place you charge tax, such as Washington DC moving to 7% on 1 October 2026.

Private and offline

Rate data ships inside the plugin and is updated with plugin updates. TaxKeel makes no outside requests, needs no account, and sends nothing about your store anywhere.

Not tax advice

TaxKeel checks your WooCommerce tax setup against published rates and common configuration mistakes. It isn’t tax advice and can’t tell you what you owe or where you must register. Check with a tax professional.

TaxKeel Pro

TaxKeel Pro is an optional paid add-on (sold separately, with a 14-day free trial) that adds a past-order tax audit, bulk tax-class tools, a US economic nexus tracker, scheduled rate changes, an EU same-price mode, and agency reports. The free plugin stays fully functional without it and still makes no outside requests.

Import and export tax rates (CSV)

Import a tax rate CSV in WooCommerce’s own format – the file WooCommerce itself exports, or a paid US local-rate file – and every row is checked before anything is saved. Add new rates alongside your existing ones, or replace the rates for the countries, states and tax classes in the file (a country-wide row replaces every existing rate for that country and class; a file limited to specific states, like a California-only US local-rate file, leaves other states alone). One undoable import, shown in History like any other fix. Export all your tax classes to CSV in one file (WooCommerce’s own exporter does one class at a time).
