Description
Sublex Chat answers your customers’ questions using only what your business has told it: your website, your documents, your own answers. This plugin puts that assistant on your WordPress site.
When it has nothing to answer from, it says so and offers to take a name and a number rather than inventing something. Every question it could not answer is collected in your dashboard, most asked first, so you can see what your site does not explain and write the answer once.
It is deliberately small. It adds one script tag to your pages and nothing else: no stylesheet, no jQuery, no block editor assets, and not a single extra request for your visitors. That tag is the same one you could paste into your theme by hand. The plugin exists so you do not have to, and so it survives your next theme update.
The other reason to use it: your chat window’s colour, wording and shape live in your Sublex Chat dashboard. Pasted by hand, those settings are frozen into the tag, and changing one means pasting it again. With the plugin, you change it in the dashboard and this site follows on its own.
What it needs
A Sublex Chat account and an assistant. Try it on your own site first: it reads your pages and answers your questions before you install anything.
What it sends, and where
This plugin talks to sublexchat.com and to nowhere else, in two situations.
When you connect the site with a code, once:
- Sent: the code you typed, and this site’s own web address.
- Received: your assistant’s public key. Your site’s address is added to that assistant’s allowed list at the same time, which is the whole reason a code is easier than pasting a key.
Twice a day, and whenever you save the settings screen:
- Sent: your assistant’s public key, and this site’s own web address.
- Received: what your chat window should look like, and whether this site is on your assistant’s allowed list.
Nothing about your visitors, your posts, your users or your email address is ever sent. Your visitors’ browsers load the chat itself directly from sublexchat.com, exactly as they would with a pasted tag.

What it does not do
- It does not add a dashboard to WordPress. Your conversations, knowledge and billing stay in one place.
- It does not collect anything about your visitors on your server.
- It does not show notices, upsells or reviews prompts anywhere outside its own settings screen.

Installation
- Install and activate the plugin.
- Go to Settings Sublex Chat.
- In your Sublex Chat dashboard, open the Website tab and press Make a connection code.
- Type the code into the plugin and press Connect. That is all: it fetches your key and adds this site to your allowed list in one go.
Codes last fifteen minutes and work once. If you would rather paste your assistant key by hand you still can, but then you must add this site to your allowed list yourself. That is the commonest reason a chat window appears and never answers, and the settings screen tells you if it has happened.

Is the assistant key a password?

No. It names one assistant and can do nothing else. It is visible in the page source of every site the chat window runs on, which is why it is safe to paste here.

Will it slow my site down?

It adds one asynchronous script tag. Nothing blocks your page from rendering, and the plugin itself sends nothing to your visitors’ browsers. The chat window is only downloaded once the page has finished loading, and not at all on a slow connection until somebody presses the button.

Can I hide it on some pages?

Yes. In the settings screen, give it the page’s ID, its slug, or its web address, whichever you have to hand. The screen then names the pages it is keeping the chat window off, so you can see it took.
If your site uses a caching plugin, saving this clears the caches it can see. A page that is cached somewhere else, a CDN in front of your host for instance, keeps its old copy until that turns over.
Developers can also use the
sublex_chat_showfilter to decide per request. -
What is a connection code?

Eight characters from your dashboard that last fifteen minutes and work once. It saves you copying a key and, more importantly, it adds this site to your assistant’s allowed list for you.

I changed the colour in my dashboard and nothing happened

It reaches this site twice a day on its own. Press Refresh appearance now on the settings screen if you want it immediately. If your site uses a caching plugin, the plugin asks the common ones to clear their pages when appearance changes.

Does it work with a block theme?

Yes. It does not touch theme files at all, which is the main reason to use it rather than pasting a tag.
