Smart Units for WooCommerce

Description

By default, WooCommerce lets customers choose only a whole number of items (1, 2, 3…). Smart Units for WooCommerce lets you sell products by weight, volume or length, and decide the interval between the quantities a customer can choose.

Examples

  • Fruit sold in kilograms, in steps of 0.5 kg.
  • Saffron sold in grams, in steps of 1 g.
  • Milk sold in milliliters, in steps of 250 mL.
  • Fabric sold in meters, in steps of 0.5 m, with 10 meters in stock.

What is included

  • Built-in units: piece, gram, kilogram, liter, milliliter, meter and centimeter.
  • A custom step, minimum quantity and maximum quantity for every product.
  • Stock managed in the same unit. When the total purchased reaches the stock, or the remaining stock is below the minimum order quantity, the product becomes out of stock.
  • Server-side validation when adding to the cart and when updating the cart.
  • The unit is shown next to the quantity field, next to the price, in the cart, at checkout, in orders and in emails.
  • The unit used is saved with each order, so old orders do not change if you change a product later.

Installation

  1. Install and activate WooCommerce.
  2. Upload the plugin folder to /wp-content/plugins/, or install it from the Plugins screen, and activate it.
  3. Edit a product, open the General tab and tick “Sell by unit”.
  4. Choose the unit, step, minimum and maximum quantity. Enter the price of ONE unit.
  5. In the Inventory tab, enable stock management and enter the stock in the same unit.

FAQ

Does it work with the WooCommerce Cart and Checkout blocks?

No. The blocks only accept whole-number quantities. Use the classic cart and checkout pages (the [woocommerce_cart] and [woocommerce_checkout] shortcodes).

Does it work with variable products?

The unit settings are set on the parent product and apply to all variations. Stock of each variation is in the same unit.

What happens to normal products?

Products without “Sell by unit” behave as before and accept whole numbers only.

What happens to my data if I deactivate or delete the plugin?

Product settings are kept, so nothing is lost if you reinstall or move to another version.
