Description
Samadhan Post Clone and Convert is a lightweight WordPress utility for cloning and converting Posts and Pages.
The plugin provides two distinct operations:
- Clone — creates a new Post or Page based on an existing Post or Page while keeping the original unchanged.
- Convert — changes an existing Post into a Page or a Page into a Post without creating a duplicate.
The plugin is designed around a focused Post and Page workflow and does not attempt to be a general-purpose content migration or duplication system.
Core Scope
Version 2.0 focuses specifically on WordPress Posts and Pages.
Cloning
The plugin supports cloning between Posts and Pages:
- Post Post
- Post Page
- Page Post
- Page Page
When cloning, the original item remains unchanged and a new item is created as a draft.
Conversion
The plugin supports conversion between Posts and Pages:
- Post Page
- Page Post
When converting, the existing item changes its post type. No duplicate item is created.
Clone vs Convert
Clone
Clone creates a new item while preserving the original.
Example:
The original Post remains unchanged and a new Page is created.
Convert
Convert changes the existing item’s post type.
Example:
The existing Post becomes a Page. No second item is created.
Content Handling
The plugin is designed to preserve relevant content and compatible dependencies when cloning Posts and Pages.
Depending on the operation and destination type, the plugin handles data such as:
- Post title
- Post content
- Post excerpt
- Author
- Featured image
- Compatible post metadata
- Compatible taxonomy relationships
- Comment status
- Ping status
- Menu order
The plugin does not blindly copy data that is incompatible with the destination post type.
For example, native Post categories and tags are only preserved when the destination post type supports the corresponding taxonomies.
Existing Media Library attachments referenced by the content are reused. The plugin does not create duplicate Media Library items.
Elementor Support
The plugin provides compatibility for Posts and Pages built with Elementor.
When cloning Elementor-built content, the plugin preserves the Elementor document data and supported Elementor-related metadata associated with the source item.
Supported Elementor-related data may include:
- Elementor document structure
- Elementor widgets and sections
- Elementor document settings
- Elementor-related post metadata
- Elementor edit mode information
- Elementor template type information
- Elementor version information
- Document-specific generated styling and assets
The plugin also supports Elementor-built Posts and Pages when converting between the two supported WordPress post types.
When an Elementor document is cloned or converted, the plugin prepares the Elementor document for the destination post type and clears or regenerates supported document-specific styling and caches when Elementor is available.
Elementor is optional. Core Post and Page cloning and conversion functionality does not require Elementor.
Dependencies and Compatibility
The plugin uses native WordPress functionality for its core cloning and conversion operations.
Compatible WordPress metadata and taxonomy relationships are preserved during cloning where supported by the destination post type.
Existing Media Library attachments referenced by the source content remain associated with their original media items.
The plugin does not duplicate media files or create duplicate attachment records.
The plugin operates entirely within the current WordPress installation and does not transfer content between different WordPress installations.
What This Plugin Does Not Do
Version 2.0 intentionally has a focused scope.
The current version does not provide:
- Custom Post Type cloning or conversion
- WooCommerce product cloning or conversion
- Site migration
- WordPress database migration
- Website duplication
- Backup functionality
- Cross-site content transfer
- Media Library duplication
- Media file duplication
Custom Post Type support may be considered for a future version.
Privacy
Samadhan Post Clone and Convert does not send Post, Page, or Elementor content to external services.
All cloning and conversion operations are performed within your WordPress installation.
The plugin does not require an external account or remote service for its core functionality.
