Press This

Description

Press This is a little tool that lets you grab bits of the web and create new posts with ease.
It will even allow you to choose from images or videos included on the page and use them in your post.
Use Press This as a quick and lightweight way to highlight another page on the web.

History

WordPress, from the earliest days, included some way to bring in snippets from other websites for you to post on your own.

The original “Press It” was removed from WordPress 2.5 and a new “Press This” added in 2.6. It existed pretty much unchanged until WordPress 4.2, which completely refreshed Press This.

In WordPress 4.9, Press This was spun out to a “canonical plugin” — an official plugin from WordPress.org so sites who wanted to use it could, but streamline more niche functionality out of Core. This was previously done with the Importers.

Happy that the Bookmarklet in WP 4.8 is restored

I had to downgrade to WP 4.8 initially to restore the functionality of the Bookmarklet. As everyone can see luckily the Bookmarklet was added to the 1.1 plugin version after even MM supported that:
https://github.com/WordPress/press-this/issues/15

I hope the Bookmarklet can be improved further for example to recognize line breaks in the selected text.

Thank you!

Version 1.1.1 has brought back all of the functions I used when this was in core. Thank you for the rapid updates over the past weeks bringing it back to life!

retrograde from bookmark

I was able to “press this” from bookmark. now the function is replaced with this stupid plugin. First, you need to install two plugins “press this” and “press this new post” to use the function. Second, when you click “press this” from “NEW” menu, it only show a blank window, there is no title, no pictures, no text caught. Then you have to copy the link into it and click scan. OK, you get media in the link; but still, title, text, source, none has been caught. Third, you have to copy title, click media wanted to add, copy text, and copy source link into the new post. Fourth: what do I use these two plugins for? nothing. just junk function. You can simply click “new post”, and copy all the items from the source link into the new post.
Junk junk junk!

1.1.* makes me happy again

The functionality lost with WP 4.9 and the version of Press This, that came with it, was quite difficult to bear. Thanks for re-establishing the old functionality that quickly.
