Description
PluginCity Advanced Pre-Orders for WooCommerce lets you take money for something that is not on your shelf yet, without anybody being misled about when it will arrive.
Tick a box on a product, give it the date you expect it, and the button changes from Add to basket to Pre-order. The date follows the customer from your shop listings to the product page, into the basket, through checkout, and onto the order they keep. Their order says it is awaiting release rather than sitting there looking like a warehouse has lost it, and it says the same on your orders screen.
Simple products and variable ones both work. A variable product’s date applies to every variation of it.
The free version is permanent. It does not expire, needs no licence key, and never contacts PluginCity.
What you get
- Pre-orders on any product, with the expected date you were given
- Add to basket becomes Pre-order, in whatever wording suits your shop
- The date shown in shop listings, on the product page, in the basket, at checkout and on the order
- Dates written in your site’s own format, or as a full day, or as the month alone for when you know roughly when but not exactly
- Wording for a pre-order you have no date for at all, rather than an awkward blank
- Pre-order status on every order: awaiting release, due, or released
- A Mark pre-order as released action on the order screen, which writes it into the order’s history
- Baskets holding a pre-order alongside something you can post today are refused, with a message you write
- Refused on classic checkout and block checkout. Express payment flows are also blocked when the basket does not meet the pre-order rules
- A shortcode,
[apofw_message], to put the basket message anywhere - Settings import and export, so your wording can be carried to another shop or kept as a backup
- High-Performance Order Storage compatibility
Nothing here phones home. There is no account, no licence key, and no trial clock.
What Pro adds
The free version takes as many pre-orders as customers will place, and gives every variation of a product the same date. Pro is for shops working to an allocation, shipping one colour before another, or with enough pre-orders on the go that they need a screen of their own.
- A date for each variation, so the black one can ship in October and the red one in January
- A cap on how many of a thing you will sell before it exists, counted against the orders you already hold
- Baskets that mix pre-orders with goods on the shelf, and a ship together or ship separately choice for the customer
- An email to everyone waiting when a date moves, whether it has slipped or come forward
- A pre-order dashboard: what is on order, how much of each allocation has gone, and how many customers are waiting
- Moving a date on several products at once, and switching pre-orders on or off in bulk from your products list
- Orders released automatically the morning the goods are due
- A pre-order fee, fixed or a percentage, charged on the pre-ordered part of the basket
- A launch date, so a pre-order opens on a morning you choose rather than the moment you save the product
- Your own colour, size and shape on the line about waiting, with a calendar or clock beside it, so it is not the quietest thing on the page
- The settings above travel with an export too, so a fee or a shipping default is carried to another shop with everything else
PluginCity Advanced Pre-Orders Pro is a separately distributed paid version. It is not included in this plugin and is not downloaded or installed by it.

FAQ
-
What happens when the date arrives?
-
The product goes back to selling normally: the button says Add to basket again and the expected date comes off. Orders already placed move from awaiting release to due, and you mark them released from the order screen once the goods have gone. Pro can do that last part for you on the morning they are due.
-
What if I do not know the date yet?
-
Leave it blank. The product still sells as a pre-order, and the storefront says you will confirm a date rather than inventing one. You can set the date later and the customer’s order picks it up.
-
Can somebody buy a pre-order and something in stock in the same basket?
-
Not in the free version. A basket holding both is refused with the message you write, because the alternative is a shop holding a parcel back for six weeks or paying to post two. Pro allows it, and asks the customer whether they would rather wait for one parcel or have the in-stock part now.
-
Does it work with variable products?
-
Yes. The date you set on the product applies to all of its variations. Pro gives each variation a date, and a stock line to sell on the shelf while its siblings are on pre-order.
-
Does it work with the block cart and checkout?
-
Yes. A basket that cannot go through is reported through WooCommerce’s Store API, so the block cart and checkout refuse to proceed and show the same message.
-
No. Express payment flows are also blocked when the basket does not meet the pre-order rules. The buttons stay on the basket, so a customer can read why the order is not going through, but the order itself is refused while the basket holds something that cannot be ordered. Any other flow that builds its order through WooCommerce’s checkout is refused there too.
-
Does it work with High-Performance Order Storage?
-
Yes. Everything written to an order goes through WooCommerce’s own order data, so HPOS shops are fully supported.
-
What happens if I deactivate WooCommerce?
-
The plugin steps aside and shows a notice. It does not fatally error, and your settings and your products’ dates are waiting when WooCommerce comes back.
-
Do I need an account or a licence?
-
No. It is free to use for as long as you like, needs no key, and never contacts PluginCity.
