= Installing Spider Video Player =

1.1 Minimum requirements of Spider Video WordPress Player .

  • WordPress 3.0+
  • PHP 5.x
  • MySQL 5.x

1.2 Perform a new installation of Spider Video Player.

  1. Login to your WordPress site administrator panel and head over the ‘Plugins’ menu
  2. Click ‘Add New’
  3. Choose the ‘Upload’ option
  4. Click Choose file (Browse) and select the Spider Video Player zip file.
    For Mac Users
    Go to your Downloads folder and locate the folder with the Spider Event Calendar. Right-click on the folder and select Compress. Now you have a newly created .zip file which can be installed as described here.
  5. Click Install Now button.
  6. Once it is complete, activate the plugin.

If you want to update the Spider Video Player plugin while preserving your existing data, you need to deactivate and delete the Spider Video Player from the list of installed plugins (Do not uninstall it using the Uninstall Video Player option of the plugin, otherwise you will lose your initial data) and install the new plugin.

Once the plugin is activated, you’ll notice a menu on the left called “Video Player”.

Adding Tags to Spider WordPress Video Player

The Tag is a custom parameter of videos by which you can search videos while creating playlists. Here are some examples of Tags: Year, Date, Artist, Album, Genre, Location, Country, Section etc.

2.1 On the left menu select Video Player > Tags
2.2 In the upper left corner click on the “Add Tag” button for adding tags to Spider Video Player.
2.3 Name. Define a name for the tag for a Spider Video Player (e.g. Artist).
2.4 Required. Choose if the tag has to be defined for each video added or not in Spider Video Player.
2.5 Published. Choose whether to publish the tag or not in Spider Video Player.

3.1 On the left menu select Video Player > Videos
3.2 In the upper left corner click on the “Add video” button to Spider Video Player.
3.3 Title. Add a title for the video

* http: Select the video (URL) and its HD version (UrlHD). You can provide the URL of the video or select it from the uploaded videos of Spider Video Player.
* youtube: Provide the youtube link to the video in the URL field.
* rtmp: Fill in the Flash Media Server (FMS) URL of the video along with the regular URL and UrlHD (HD version).
3.5 Thumb. Select an image for the video thumbnail out of the uploaded images. Use the “Remove Image” option to remove the selected image.
3.6 Tags. Fill in the available tags for your video in Spider Video Player (see Step 2 for adding tags).

= Creating Playlists in Spider Video Player =

4.1 On the left menu select Video Player > Playlists
4.2 In the upper left corner click on the “Add playlist” button.
4.3 Title. Choose a title for the playlist in Spider Video Player.
4.4 Videos. Use the “Add” button to add videos to your playlist from the list of existing videos.
4.5 Thumb. Select a thumbnail image for the playlist. Use the “Remove Image” option to remove the selected image.

= Creating Themes in Spider Video Player =

5.1 General Parameters of a theme in Spider Video Player

5.1.1 On the left menu select Video Player > Themes
5.1.2 In the upper right corner click on the “Add a Theme” button.
5.1.3 Title of theme. Choose a title for the theme.
5.1.4 Width of player. Define the width of the video player.
5.1.5 Height of player. Define the height of the video player.
5.1.6 Start with. Define the mode of the player at start (Video or Playlist).
5.1.7 Show Track Id. Choose whether to show the sequential number of the track in the playlist.
5.1.7 Auto hide time. Define how long the control bar and the playlist stay on screen while being inactive.
5.1.8 Keep aspect ratio. Choose whether to keep the original aspect ratio of the video player or not.
5.1.9 Control bar over video. Choose whether the control bar appears on the video area of the player or above/below the player.
5.1.10 Watermark image. You can add an image to appear as a watermark on the screen.
5.1.11 Watermark position. Choose a position for the watermark image for WordPress Video Plugin.
5.1.12 Watermark size. Select a size for the watermark image for Spider Video Player.
5.1.13 Watermark margin. Select the distance between the watermark image and the edge of the player window.
5.1.14 Watermark transparency. Select the transparency level for the watermark image for Spider Video Player.

5.2.1 Center button transparency. Define the transparency level of the play/pause button at the center of the screen (‘0’ for complete transparency).
5.2.2 Background color. Choose the main background color of the Spider Video Player.

5.2.4 Frames background color. Choose the background color of the control bar and the playlist.

5.2.14 Selected text color. Choose the color of the selected text of the Spider Video Player.
5.2.15 Loading animation type. Choose what animation is being shown while loading the video of the Spider Video Player.

5.3 Playback Parameters

5.3.1 Auto play. Choose whether the player automatically starts the playback on page opening or not.
5.3.2 Auto next song. Choose whether player automatically switches to the next track in the playlist when the previous one is finished or not.
5.3.3 Auto next album. Choose whether Video Player automatically switches to the next playlists when the previous one is finished or not.
5.3.4 Default volume. Define the default sound volume of the player.
5.3.5 Repeat. Choose whether the player repeats the current track or the whole playlist by default or not.
* Off: Do not repeat
* One: Repeat the current track
* All: Repeat the whole playlist
5.3.6 Shuffle. Choose whether Video Player shuffles the tracks by default or not.
5.3.7 Control bar auto hide. Enable or disable control bar auto hide of the Spider Video Player.

5.4 Playlist and Library Parameters of the Spider Video Player

5.4.1 Playlist position. Choose whether the playlist appears on the left or on the right side of the player.
5.4.2 Width of playlist. Define the width of the playlist.
5.4.3 Playlist over video. Choose whether the Playlist appears on the video area or at the left/right side of it.
5.4.4 Open Playlist at Start. Choose whether to automatically open the playlist after starting the player.
5.4.5 Playlist auto hide. Enable or disable the option of automatically hiding the playlist.
5.4.6 Playlist text size. Define the size of the playlist text.
5.4.7 Library columns. Define the number of columns in the library.
5.4.8 Library rows. Define the number of rows in the library.
5.4.9 Library list text size. Define the size of the text in the library list.
5.4.10 Library details text size. Define the size of the text in the library details.

5.5 Video Control Parameters of the Spider Video Player

5.5.1 Play/pause on click. Enable or disable play/pause by clicking on the player screen.
5.5.2 Play/pause by space key. Enable or disable play/pause of the Spider Video Player by pressing the ‘space’ key.
5.5.3 Volume control by mouse scroll. Enable or disable sound volume control of the Spider Video Player through the mouse scroll.
5.5.4 Control bar position. Choose whether the control bar is at the top or at the bottom of the WordPress Video Plugin window.
5.5.5 Buttons order on control bar. Select the order of buttons on the control of the Spider Video Player bar by dragging and dropping them from one position to another. Click on a button to enable/disable it.

6.3 Priority. Choose if you want to add a Flash or HTML5 player. Note that if the device (e.g. mobile phone) does not support Flash, the player will automatically switch to HTML5 mode (videos of unsupported formats will not be displayed).
6.4 Title. Choose a title for the player.
6.5 Select Theme. Select a theme from the existing list.
6.6 Playlist. Use the “Add” button to add playlist to your player.

= Publishing the created player =

To insert a player into a Page or a Post.

7.1. Press the button named Insert Spider Video Player in a post or a page you want to show the player.
7.2. Select a player from the list and click on the Insert button.
Single Video
7.3 Select a Video. Select the video you want to publish.
7.4 Select a Theme. Select a theme to be applied to the player.
7.5 Priority. Choose if you want to add a Flash or HTML5 player. Note that if the device (e.g. mobile phone) does not support Flash, the player will automatically switch to HTML5 mode (videos of unsupported formats will not be displayed).
7.6 Click on the Insert button.
7.7 Save the page or post.

Alternatively, you can use Spider Video Player without the button on the toolbar: Add the shortcode [Spider_Video_Player id=”N”] (where N is the id of the player, for the player with id=2, the shortcode must be [Spider_Video_Player id=”2″]) to the pages and posts, where you want the player to appear.
For a single video, the shortcode is the following: [Spider_Single_Video track=”Video ID” theme_id=”Theme ID” priority=”0/1″], where Video ID should be replaced with the ID number of the video and Theme ID should be replaced with the ID number of the theme. The value of the priority parameter can be either “0” for Flash or “1” for HTML5 player.

1. Is it possible to translate the Spider Video Player into another language?

It is only possible to translate the front end of the plugin. To do so, you should set define(‘WPLANG’,'[lang_code]’) to the desired language code in wp_config.php file of your website. This way the plugin should be translated automatically. Please be informed, that you can modify the translations from wp-content/plugins/spider_player/languages/ (you will need POEdit http://www.poedit.net/download.php).

2. What content does the Spider Video Player Flash option support?

The Spider Video Player Flash options supports playback of any media content format supported by the Adobe Flash Player. This includes FLV, H.264/MPEG-4, MP3, AAC, JPG, PNG and GIF files, as well as XML playlists. HTTP and RTMP streaming are supported, too.

3. Why should I use Priority feature?

The option is used for setting the priority of the Video player format. If you choose Flash priority the videos will work with Flash in case of devices/browsers with Flash support, otherwise the HTML5 player will be used.

4. How to include YouTube videos to the playlists?

You should simply include the link of the YouTube video.

5. Can I customize the Spider Video Player?

Yes, you can use one of the standard themes of the player included in the package and change them according to your needs and preferences. Moreover, you can create your own themes.
