Description
PAYGRAB lets you sell digital products (PDFs, templates, assets, anything you can put in a ZIP file) from your own WordPress site. You register a product in a simple form, paste its shortcode into any post or page, and the price and the purchase button appear right there. There are no product pages to design.
How it works
- Add a product: name, price and a ZIP file. You get a shortcode like
[paygrab_buy id="12"]. - Paste the shortcode into a blog post or a page. You can paste it as many times as you like.
- A buyer signs up (free, with an email confirmation), places an order and sees the bank account to pay into.
- You check your bank book and press “Confirm payment”. The buyer is told by email and downloads the file from My page.
What you get
- A buy box for any post or page, in three looks (Standard, Card, Minimal) with your own key colour. It uses your theme’s fonts and works with any theme. An optional product image.
- Members: sign-up with an email confirmation (on by default: nobody becomes a member until the link is opened; you can turn it off in the settings), log in, password reset, and a My page with the order history, downloads and the account (change the email address or the password, or leave).
- Bank transfer: the buyer gets the account and a transfer number by screen and by email. You confirm each payment by hand from the dashboard or the orders list. Orders that are not paid by the deadline are cancelled automatically, and the buyer gets a reminder the day before.
- Downloads you can limit by number of times and by days. The files are kept in a protected folder; buyers download through links that only work for them while logged in, and the settings screen checks for real that the files cannot be opened from outside.
- Made for Japan: a page for the legal notice (Specified Commercial Transactions Act), a final confirmation screen that states the payment method, the deadline, the delivery and the cancellation terms, prices in yen with 10% consumption tax included.
- A dashboard with this month’s sales and the orders waiting for payment, an orders list with search, and a settings screen with everything in one place.
- Plain-text emails sent with
wp_mail()(order, payment confirmed, deadline reminder, cancellation, sign-up confirmation). The wording can be changed with filters. - If you also use the YOMERU – Paywall & Membership plugin, the buyer’s page becomes two tabs inside YOMERU’s My page.
PAYGRAB Pro (separate product, not on WordPress.org) adds card and PayPay payments through Stripe, bank transfers that are confirmed automatically, editable email texts and a conversion tag for the purchase screen. PAYGRAB works completely without it.

Installation
- Upload the
paygrabfolder to/wp-content/plugins/, or install it from the Plugins screen. - Activate it. PAYGRAB creates the pages it needs (checkout, My page, sign-up, log in, legal notice) and the protected folder for your files.
- Open PAYGRAB Settings and fill in the bank account and the legal notice. The dashboard shows what is still missing.
- Open PAYGRAB Add product, register your product, and paste the shortcode into a post.
FAQ
-
Does PAYGRAB send any data to another server?
-
No. PAYGRAB does not connect to any outside service. The only request it makes is from your site to your own site, to check that the files you sell cannot be opened by anyone from outside (Settings File protection). It does not track visitors.
-
Which payment methods does the free plugin support?
-
Bank transfer, which you confirm by hand. Cards and PayPay need PAYGRAB Pro, a separate product.
-
Why do buyers have to register?
-
So that each buyer has a My page with their orders and downloads, and so that a download link only works for the person who paid. Sign-up is free and, by default, confirmed by email. You can turn the email confirmation off in Settings Pages and sign-up; the sign-up form then asks for the address twice and the person becomes a member right away.
-
Where are the files I sell kept?
-
In a folder with an unguessable name inside
wp-content/uploads/paygrab-private/, protected from direct access. Files are only handed out by PAYGRAB, to the logged-in buyer of a paid order. On nginx, where.htaccesshas no effect, the File protection screen tells you and shows the line to add to the server settings. -
My emails do not arrive.
-
PAYGRAB sends email with the standard WordPress function. If your server cannot send mail reliably, install an SMTP plugin (such as WP Mail SMTP). Settings Mail has a button to send a test email.
-
What is stored about buyers?
-
Name and email address (as WordPress users), their orders, and the download counts. To limit abuse, PAYGRAB keeps a short-lived counter per action and visitor address, stored as a hash, for up to an hour. Nothing is sent to anyone else.
-
What happens when I delete the plugin?
-
Nothing is deleted by default, because orders are your accounting records. If you turn on “Also delete all PAYGRAB data when the plugin is deleted” (Settings Data) before deleting it, PAYGRAB removes the order tables, the products, the files you uploaded, the settings and the pages it created (pages you edited are kept). Members stay as WordPress users. Deactivating the plugin never deletes anything.
-
Does it work together with YOMERU?
-
Yes. With YOMERU – Paywall & Membership active, the buyer’s page moves into YOMERU’s My page as two tabs, and PAYGRAB’s own My page redirects there.
-
Does it work with the PANDORA theme (or other TCD themes with paid articles)?
-
Yes. With a TCD theme that offers the add-on tab hooks in its My page (PANDORA 3.8, VALUE 1.5 and BLAZE 2.4 or later), the buyer’s page becomes two tabs (“Digital products” and “Downloads”) inside the theme’s My page, and PAYGRAB’s own page redirects there. Without the hooks, or when another plugin or theme uses the address
/mypage/, PAYGRAB’s page is kept apart at/purchases/. Members are WordPress users shared by both, so one sign-up serves both. Leaving from PAYGRAB’s My page deletes the whole account, so the other member features stop working too. -
Where is the source of the admin screens?
-
The settings and product screens are built with
@wordpress/scripts. The source is insrc/and the build command is inpackage.json(npm installandnpm run build).
