Description
MatrixInn Migrate & Backup saves your database, media, plugins and themes into one file you can download, keep, or restore on any WordPress site. Backing up and restoring are both free and have no size limit.
What you can do
- Back up now with one click, or choose exactly what goes in (database, media, plugins, themes, other folders) and leave out folders you do not need.
- Restore from any backup: from the list, or by uploading a
.mnbkfile made on this site or another one. - Move a site to a new address. The site address is changed for you, including inside serialized data, JSON and page-builder settings, without breaking them.
- Schedule backups: daily or weekly, and keep only the last few so the disk never fills up.
- Safety backup before every restore. If anything goes wrong you can restore the “before” state from the Backups list.
- Big sites on slow hosting. Backup and restore run in small steps, so a short server time limit does not stop them. An interrupted upload continues where it stopped.
- WP-CLI:
wp minn-mb export, import, list, deleteandschedule, with no web server time limit.
Built to be safe
- A restore is prepared completely off to the side (new files in a temporary folder, new database tables with a temporary name) and switched in at the end. If the switch fails, it is undone and your site stays as it was.
- Every file in a backup is checked against a checksum before anything is changed. A damaged or incomplete backup is refused.
- The restore can never overwrite
wp-config.php, and it keeps this plugin installed and active. - Backups are kept in a folder with a random name, with deny rules, and are only downloadable by administrators from the plugin screen.
- Nothing is sent to any outside server. There are no ads, no tracking and no upsell notices.
Where backups are stored
In wp-content/minn-mb-backups/ on your own server. A backup on the same server does not protect you if the server is lost, so download important backups to your computer now and then.
Good to know
- Needs 64-bit PHP (almost every host has it) and the MySQL
mysqliextension. - Works on single sites. WordPress Multisite is not supported yet.
- Tables of other applications in the same database, and tables that are not in the backup, are left alone by a restore.

FAQ
-
Is there a size limit?
-
No. The only limits are your disk space and your host. Uploads are sent in small pieces, which start at 512 KB and adjust themselves to what the server accepts.
-
Is restoring really free?
-
Yes. Backing up, downloading, uploading and restoring are all free.
-
Can I restore a backup on a different domain?
-
Yes. The old site address is replaced by the new one everywhere in the data, and you can add your own find-and-replace pairs on the restore screen. Post GUIDs are never changed.
-
Where are my backups? Can anyone download them?
-
They are in
wp-content/minn-mb-backups/<random name>/. Only administrators can download them, from the plugin screen. On Apache the folder is also blocked with deny rules. Nginx does not read.htaccessfiles, so on Nginx add this to your server configuration:location ^~ /wp-content/minn-mb-backups/ { deny all; } -
My host says “page not found” when I upload the plugin or a backup.
-
Some hosts run a web application firewall that blocks uploads containing code. The plugin sends backup pieces as plain text so that this rarely matters. If installing the plugin zip is blocked, upload the unzipped folder with FTP or the host’s file manager, or install from WordPress.org. If uploading a very large backup keeps failing, copy the
.mnbkfile intowp-content/minn-mb-backups/<random name>/with FTP; it then appears in the Backups list, ready to restore. -
An upload stopped halfway. Do I have to start again?
-
No. Click Upload again with the same file and it continues where it stopped, even after reloading the page.
-
Pages say “not found” after a restore.
-
Open Settings > Permalinks and click Save Changes once. That writes this server’s link rules again; the plugin also reminds you when a restore finishes.
-
What is a safety backup?
-
Before every restore the plugin saves the current site as a backup named
rollback-.... The two newest are kept. If a restore is not what you wanted, restore the safety backup. -
What happens to my backups if I delete the plugin?
-
They are kept. Deleting the plugin removes its settings and temporary files but never your
.mnbkbackups, so you cannot lose them by accident. They stay inwp-content/minn-mb-backups/; delete that folder yourself when you no longer need them. If you install the plugin again, the backups are listed again. -
Does the plugin send any data to other servers?
-
No. It makes no outside requests at all.
-
Does it work on WordPress Multisite?
-
Not yet. It tells you so and does nothing.
-
Scheduled backups did not run.
-
Scheduled backups use WP-Cron, which starts when someone visits the site. If WP-Cron is switched off on your site, ask your host to run
wp minn-mb schedule runfrom a server cron job.
