Description
LassoCut removes the background of your images: products, people, animals, cars and graphics. The subject is detected automatically.
- Media Library: a “Remove background” link under each image (list view), and a bulk action for up to 10 images at a time.
- WooCommerce: a “Remove background from main image” bulk action on Products. The cut-out becomes the product image.
- Your originals are kept. The result is saved as a new image named
…-removebg.pngnext to the original, with the same alt text. - Transparent or coloured background: a transparent PNG, or a JPG on white (or any colour) for consistent product photos.
- Preview or full size: previews use your free monthly previews first; full size up to 25 megapixels uses 1 credit.
You need a LassoCut account: sign in at lassocut.com with GitHub or Google and create an API key. Every account gets 50 free previews a month, up to 10 a day; credit packs never expire.
External services
This plugin sends the images you choose to the LassoCut API (https://api.lassocut.com), operated by JAUPIN Design LLC, to remove their background. It only does so when you click “Remove background” or run the bulk action; the settings page also asks the API for your credit balance, and “Connect with LassoCut” asks it for a connection code and then, every 3 seconds for up to 10 minutes, whether you approved it (the key it returns is saved in the plugin settings). Your API key is sent with each request. Images are processed in memory and not stored by LassoCut.

Installation
- Install and activate the plugin.
- Go to Settings > LassoCut and click “Connect with LassoCut”: sign in with GitHub or Google in the new tab and approve. (Or paste an API key from https://www.lassocut.com/account/.)
- In Media > Library (list view), click “Remove background” under an image, or select several and use the bulk action.

Is the original image replaced?

No. The cut-out is a new image in the Media Library. For WooCommerce products, the cut-out becomes the main product image and the original stays in the library.

Why is the first image slow?

After a quiet period the processing servers wake up first; the first image can take up to a minute. The next ones take a few seconds.

How many images can I process at once?

Up to 10 per bulk action, so a run of slow, cold-starting images can never run past what the server’s own time limit allows. For whole folders, use the free LassoCut batch tool in your browser: https://www.lassocut.com/batch/

Does it work with code written for the remove.bg API?

The LassoCut API accepts the same requests as the remove.bg API, which closes on 1 December 2026. LassoCut is not affiliated with remove.bg or Canva.
