ITPS WCAG Accessibility

Description

ITPS WCAG Accessibility helps WordPress and Elementor sites meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2, Level AA, which many public-sector and enterprise contracts now require.

It fixes the mechanical problems automatically, shows you exactly what is left, and gives you the paperwork (checklist and accessibility statement) you need for RFPs and audits. It is not an “overlay”: fixes are real HTML, CSS and ARIA improvements. The optional visitor toolbar is off by default.

Automatic fixes (each one can be turned off)

  • 2.4.1 Skip-to-content link and a main landmark
  • 2.4.7 Strong, visible keyboard focus outline
  • 2.4.11 Focus Not Obscured (new in 2.2) – focused items never hide under sticky headers
  • 2.5.8 Target Size (new in 2.2) – minimum 24×24 px buttons and icon links
  • 1.4.4 Re-enables pinch-zoom when a theme blocks it
  • 2.2.2 / 2.3.3 Respects “reduce motion” and adds a pause button to auto-playing carousels
  • 1.4.1 Underlines links in body text
  • 1.1.1 Images with no alt attribute get alt=”” (and are still listed in the scan)
  • 4.1.2 Accessible names for icon-only links and buttons, social icons, iframes and unlabeled form fields
  • 1.3.5 autocomplete on name, email, phone and address fields
  • 3.2.5 “Opens in a new tab” text on target=”_blank” links
  • Elementor: menu toggle and sub-menus (aria-expanded, Esc to close), toggles and accordions, and Elementor Pro popups as real dialogs (focus trap, Esc, focus return)

Site Scan – every page type

Checks your site the way a visitor sees it, across every kind of page:

  • Home page and blog index
  • Every page, post and public custom post type (WooCommerce products, Elementor landing pages, portfolios…)
  • Post type archives (e.g. the WooCommerce shop)
  • Category, tag and custom taxonomy archives (e.g. product categories)
  • Author and date archives
  • Search results and the 404 page

Results are grouped by WCAG success criterion and by page type, with “Edit with Elementor” links and a CSV export.

Manual checklist

The WCAG 2.2 criteria no tool can test (keyboard use, captions, reflow, error messages, the new 2.2 criteria, screen-reader testing). Record Supports / Partially supports / Does not support and notes. That is the evidence you need to fill in a VPAT / Accessibility Conformance Report.

Accessibility statement

One click creates an Accessibility Statement page (based on the W3C model) using the [itps_accessibility_statement] shortcode.

ITPS Cloud (optional, free key)

Connect a free ITPS key and IT Pro Services’ servers re-scan your public pages every week, email you the report, keep your scan history and host a public accessibility report page and badge. See “External services” below.

Important

No plugin can make a site WCAG conformant on its own. Automated checks cover roughly a third of WCAG. Alt-text quality, colour contrast in your theme, captions, heading structure, and keyboard and screen-reader testing still need a person. This plugin shows you where to look.

External services

This plugin works fully without any external service. It only connects to one if you choose to connect it to ITPS Cloud (WCAG 2.2 ITPS Cloud), paste a key and tick the consent box.

  • Service: ITPS Cloud by IT Pro Services LLC – https://my.it-ps.net
  • What it does: scans your site’s public pages from ITPS servers on a schedule, emails reports, stores scan history and hosts a public report page.
  • Data sent (only after you connect): your site URL, admin email address, plugin and WordPress version numbers, and your ITPS key. ITPS servers then fetch your site’s public pages like a normal visitor.
  • When: when you click Connect, Run a cloud scan or Disconnect, and once a day to refresh status and history while connected.
  • Terms of service: https://www.it-ps.net/terms-and-conditions/
  • Privacy policy: https://www.it-ps.net/privacy-policy/

The “Get my free key” button opens https://my.it-ps.net in a new tab so you can create an account; nothing is sent from your site when you click it.

Installation

  1. In WordPress go to Plugins Add New, search for “ITPS WCAG Accessibility”, then install and activate it. (Or upload the zip under Plugins Add New Upload Plugin.)
  2. Go to WCAG 2.2 Settings. All automatic fixes are on by default; set your focus colour and sticky-header height if needed.
  3. Go to WCAG 2.2 Site Scan and click “Scan all pages”.
  4. Work through the results, then the Manual Checklist.
  5. Click “Create accessibility statement page” in Settings and link that page in your footer.

FAQ

Will this make my site WCAG 2.2 compliant?

It fixes many common automated failures and shows you the rest, but full conformance always needs some manual work and testing. The plugin is honest about that. It never claims your site is “compliant”.

Is this an accessibility overlay?

No. The fixes change the page’s HTML, CSS and ARIA for everyone. The optional toolbar (off by default) only adds visitor conveniences such as text size and contrast.

Does it work without Elementor?

Yes. It works with any theme. When Elementor or Elementor Pro is active, extra fixes for its menus, toggles, carousels and popups apply automatically.

Does the scan slow down my site?

No. The scan runs only when you click “Scan all pages”, from your admin screen, one page at a time.

Why does the scan show errors on archive or 404 pages?

Those pages come from your theme or Elementor Theme Builder templates. Fixing the template once fixes every page of that type.

Do I need an ITPS account?

No. Everything works without one. The free key only adds the scheduled cloud scans, emailed reports, history and hosted report page.

How do I remove all data?

Deactivate and delete the plugin. Its settings and scan results are removed. An accessibility statement page you created stays, because it is site content.
