Description
GameTranslate Performance Toolkit is a WordPress performance toolkit with a built-in speed diagnostic report and optional optimizations. Every potentially disruptive optimization is off by default. It is designed for administrators who want to see what costs time before changing how the site loads.
Features:
- WooCommerce Safety Sentinel (new in 2.0): Optional public GET cache-header checks for cart, checkout and account, and a synthetic non-identifying cart-cookie request. Flags clear cache HIT violations; does not send orders, authenticate, submit checkout forms or prove true sessions are safe.
- Cache Conflict Doctor (new in 2.0): Read-only inventory of cache drop-ins, overlapping optimization plugins, object cache and headers observed from the site’s public home page. Does not modify other plugins, CDN or server cache.
-
Autoload Footprint Inspector (new in 2.0): Read-only option count, byte totals, top 25 autoload option names and size groups based on the largest 300 entries. No option values, passwords or tokens are retrieved for display or stored; the prefix-based groups are only guesses and cannot justify deletion.
-
Optimization Proof Engine (new in 1.2): Manually capture five anonymous, same-site HTTP samples per public page, compare medians before and after an optimization, and refuse comparisons if cache state changes or there are too few successful measurements. Server-side timing is not a PageSpeed/Core Web Vitals score.
-
Smart Update Guardian (new in 1.2): Optional WP-Cron reference measurements twice daily and delayed checks following core, theme or plugin updates; assess homepage timing and public storefront HTTP/cache signals, and show advisory dashboard warnings without disabling other plugins or automatically rolling back changes.
-
Commerce Impact Lab (new in 1.1): Read-only baseline/after-change HTTP measurements of public home, shop, product, cart, checkout and account URLs; report large timing changes, HTTP failures and suspicious cache-HIT headers on customer pages. No orders or payments are submitted, and the feature cannot prove JavaScript or checkout works.
- Change journal and guarded rollback: Save the previous GameTranslate Performance Toolkit settings automatically before each actual settings change (last eight saves). One-click restore works only if the current settings still match the saved changes. This is a settings rollback, not a transactional reversal of database maintenance, server configuration or other plugins.
-
Risk explainer and storefront cache bypass audit: Show risks of currently enabled optimizations and confirm that GameTranslate Performance Toolkit’s built-in path exemptions cover WooCommerce cart, checkout and account page slugs. It cannot inspect external caching layers.
-
Speed check: Measure first and second page loads, identify heavy assets and site configuration, inspect database queries, plugin load times and slow external HTTP requests. Advanced diagnostics copy a small bundled must-use (MU) probe helper when you explicitly run a check. The helper is only active for signed same-site diagnostics and can be safely removed.
- Page cache (opt-in): Saved HTML for eligible anonymous GET requests using an
advanced-cache.phpdrop-in. Path, cookie and WooCommerce exclusions are built in. This is not appropriate for every personalized or dynamic website. - Loading controls (opt-in): WordPress-native script defer strategies, script delay rules, resource hints, limited YouTube facade and image-dimension handling.
- Front-end cleanup (opt-in): Emojis, head links, embeds, dashicons, XML-RPC and jQuery Migrate controls.
- WooCommerce-aware options (opt-in): Limit selected WooCommerce assets to relevant pages and help diagnose shop performance. Carefully test mini-cart, checkout and third-party blocks if you use this feature.
- Fonts (opt-in): Download Google Fonts stylesheets and font files to local cache and preload selected assets.
- Database report and maintenance: Inspect autoloaded options and table sizes; manually clean old data. Scheduled cleanup is off by default.
- Outbound HTTP diagnostics: Inspect slow requests and optionally configure a timeout/host pause guard. That guard can affect authentication, payments and third-party services: leave it off unless you know its implications.
Settings are at Tools > GameTranslate Performance Toolkit. Commerce Impact Lab and Proof Engine are separate manual tabs. Update Guardian is disabled until the administrator explicitly enables background monitoring. No frontend credits, tracking pixels, advertisements or external activation are added. WordPress 6.9 or later is required for core-managed template enhancement output buffering. No subscription required.
Privacy and external services
GameTranslate Performance Toolkit does not send tracking or analytics data to the developer. When an administrator clicks “Speed check”, the plugin requests URLs from the administrator’s own WordPress site, including requests using the administrator’s cookies for an authenticated shop diagnostic, to measure real response times. Diagnostic results (which can include query text, plugin names, HTTP host/path and timing details) are stored as WordPress options/transients for the administrator to review. Commerce Impact Lab runs read-only, anonymous GET requests to fixed public URLs on the current website, stores only response code, timing and selected cache headers, and never sends authenticated customer cookies. Treat the diagnostic screen as sensitive information and do not share unrestricted reports publicly. Proof Engine makes up to five anonymous same-origin GET requests per public page (plus a warm-up) when manually triggered and stores the compact timing results locally. Optional Update Guardian sends bounded anonymous GET requests to the local site via WP-Cron twice daily and after core/theme/plugin updates; only timings, HTTP statuses, selected cache indicators and update type are retained. No data is transmitted to GameTranslate.us.
Manual WooCommerce Safety Sentinel probes make public same-origin GET requests with a synthetic non-identifying cart flag cookie and record only status and cache headers. Cache Conflict Doctor requests the public home page and stores a bounded inventory of active optimization plugin names, cache drop-in status and response headers. Autoload Inspector stores option names, sizes and grouped statistics, never option values. None of these tools collect personal visitor or customer session data.
Optional “Test connections” sends direct HTTP requests to fonts.googleapis.com, fonts.gstatic.com, api-m.paypal.com, www.paypal.com, www.googleapis.com, api.wordpress.org only after a user presses the corresponding button. No API keys or credentials are supplied in these probes. Remote services receive standard web request metadata such as server IP address. Enable “Local Google Fonts” to download CSS and font files from fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com and store them on your server. Enable the YouTube facade to show a local placeholder; only after a visitor clicks Play does it embed the remote video from youtube-nocookie.com. No YouTube preview image is fetched before the click. Other resource hints may connect to sites configured by the administrator.
The plugin’s cache writes data files into wp-content/cache/game-translate-performance/; optional page caching copies the bundled, immutable PHP drop-in to wp-content/advanced-cache.php, only if that file is unused or owned by GameTranslate Performance Toolkit. GameTranslate Performance Toolkit does not modify wp-config.php automatically; administrators must add define( 'WP_CACHE', true ); themselves if needed.
Human-readable source and script handling
All JavaScript and CSS source files are shipped in human-readable form under assets/ within this very plugin ZIP, including assets/youtube.js, assets/youtube.css and assets/delay.js. No minification, transpilation, proprietary compiler or external build step is required to reproduce these files; edit them directly and use the resulting plugin folder. The full source is provided under the plugin’s GPL-compatible license.
WordPress registers/enqueues all scripts and styles owned by this plugin with wp_enqueue_script(), wp_enqueue_style() and wp_add_inline_script(), as appropriate (see includes/loading.php, method enqueue_assets()).
The optional Delay JavaScript setting does not directly insert new executable scripts into the page. Instead, after another component has already output its script, the HTML output transformer changes only scripts matching the administrator’s delay list into inert HTML <template data-gtpt-delay> placeholders. The plugin’s own, WordPress-enqueued assets/delay.js restores those original scripts only after interaction (or the configured fallback timeout). Checkout and cart are exempt from this rewriting. This deliberately differs from injecting a raw <script> tag in PHP and is necessary for delaying third-party snippets that are not registered as WordPress script handles. We recommend leaving it disabled until tested for compatibility.
External services
GameTranslate Performance Toolkit does not require third-party accounts, send telemetry to the developer, or track site visitors. All outbound diagnostics are performed by the site’s server only when the administrator enables a corresponding feature or clicks a test button. No authentication credentials, order data or customer personal information are intentionally included in these diagnostics. Each remote server can see the requesting server’s IP address and normal HTTP request metadata.
- Google Fonts (
fonts.googleapis.com,fonts.gstatic.com): Only if an administrator enables the Local Google Fonts setting. The server downloads a CSS stylesheet URL discovered on the website, and the associated font files, to serve from its own storage. This transmits the website server IP, a browser-like User-Agent header and the relevant font URLs to Google; the setting does not send visitor cookies or private order data. Terms: https://developers.google.com/fonts/terms ; privacy: https://policies.google.com/privacy . - PayPal (
api-m.paypal.com,www.paypal.com): Only when an administrator explicitly runs the optional Test connections tool. The server makes unauthenticated network connectivity test requests to the selected endpoint; it does not submit payments or send API credentials. Terms: https://www.paypal.com/us/legalhub/paypal/useragreement-full ; privacy: https://www.paypal.com/us/legalhub/paypal/privacy-full . - Google APIs (
www.googleapis.com): Only when an administrator runs the optional Test connections tool. A server-side unauthenticated connectivity probe is sent; the plugin does not request Google Drive files or OAuth tokens. Terms: https://developers.google.com/terms ; privacy: https://policies.google.com/privacy . - WordPress.org (
api.wordpress.org): Only when an administrator runs the optional Test connections tool, GameTranslate Performance Toolkit sends a server-side HTTP request to test outbound connectivity. Terms: https://wordpress.org/about/license/ ; privacy: https://wordpress.org/about/privacy/ . - YouTube (
www.youtube-nocookie.com): Only if the administrator enables the YouTube facade, and only after a website visitor explicitly clicks its Play control, the visitor browser loads an embed. The initial placeholder is locally rendered and sends no request to Google. A playing embed necessarily shares the visitor’s IP address, browser metadata and the requested video identifier with YouTube. Terms: https://www.youtube.com/t/terms ; privacy: https://policies.google.com/privacy .
Other user-configured preconnect and preload URLs are displayed in settings; enabling them may cause visitors’ browsers to connect directly to the chosen hosts. Any data transfer is determined by the URL the administrator enters. The administrator should review the third-party destination’s applicable terms and privacy notices.
Installation
- Upload the
game-translate-performancedirectory to/wp-content/plugins/or install the ZIP via Plugins > Add New > Upload Plugin. - Activate GameTranslate Performance Toolkit.
- Visit Tools > GameTranslate Performance Toolkit and run the Speed check. In Commerce Impact Lab, capture a baseline before changing settings and compare it after each change.
- Back up your site and enable optimizations individually. Test cart, checkout, login, subscriptions, payments and other custom flows.
- Optional Update Guardian should be enabled only when you want automatic background checks and your WP-Cron is working. Capture a fresh reference before updating plugins/themes; recent references are required for meaningful comparisons.
- Optional page cache requires
define( 'WP_CACHE', true );inwp-config.phpand write permission forwp-content/advanced-cache.phpandwp-content/cache/. - Do not run GT Speed, PixelBoost and GameTranslate Performance Toolkit together. Deactivate GT Speed and PixelBoost before activating GameTranslate Performance Toolkit. Their settings are intentionally not imported.
FAQ
-
Does GameTranslate Performance Toolkit require another service or license key?
-
No. All plugin features run locally. Optional Google Fonts caching and user-initiated connection tests make clearly described external requests.
-
Does GameTranslate Performance Toolkit change wp-config.php?
-
No. If you enable page caching and WP_CACHE is not already true, add the definition yourself.
-
Can GameTranslate Performance Toolkit run with another full-page cache?
-
Keep a single owner of
advanced-cache.php. GameTranslate Performance Toolkit refuses to replace a different plugin’s drop-in. If GT Speed or PixelBoost is active, GameTranslate Performance Toolkit blocks activation to avoid overlapping asset and caching optimizations. For other cache solutions, leave GameTranslate Performance Toolkit page cache off. -
Is every feature safe for a WooCommerce store?
-
No. Script delay, excluding WooCommerce assets and caching dynamically personalized pages can break commerce workflows on some themes or third-party integrations. Those controls are disabled by default and should first be tested on staging.
-
Why is the score different from Google PageSpeed Insights?
-
GameTranslate Performance Toolkit’s internal speed check measures server responses and WordPress behavior; it is not a substitute for field Core Web Vitals or Chrome Lighthouse.
-
Can I uninstall it?
-
Yes. Deactivate the plugin to stop its hooks and remove its page-cache drop-in and optional bundled diagnostic helper. On uninstall, plugin-specific stored settings, the bounded rollback journal, proof measurements, guardian references/history/cron hooks, measurement reports and generated cache files are deleted. WP_CACHE is left unchanged.

Changelog
2.1.6
- Add the GameTranslate.us homepage as the Plugin URI and the WordPress.org contributor profile as the Author URI.
- Refresh plugin directory metadata without changing performance functionality.
2.1.5
- Publish the full readable, unminified YouTube JavaScript and CSS in the distributed plugin itself (no build tools needed).
- Replace directly generated script placeholders in Delay JavaScript with inert HTML templates, while continuing to load the activation script through WordPress enqueue APIs.
- Document the bundled source files and the purpose of the HTML transformation for plugin reviewers.
2.1.4
- Rename the plugin and slug to GameTranslate Performance Toolkit / game-translate-performance following WordPress.org naming guidance; no performance logic changes.
2.1.3
- Remove the SQL query filter’s backtrace-summary call and use per-query caller metadata already captured by WordPress SAVEQUERIES.
- Keep best-effort plugin/theme attribution without adding query-time overhead or misattributing identical SQL executed by different callers.
- Recognize the unmodified v2.1.2 bundled MU helper during upgrade and uninstall.
2.1.2
- Validate the diagnostic request token from the HTTP query input without using an unsanitized superglobal fallback.
- Use the WordPress-provided callable summary and class/function source locations for best-effort query ownership in signed speed diagnostics, rather than directly walking the PHP call stack.
- Safely recognize and replace the official GameTranslate Performance Toolkit 2.1.1 MU helper during subsequent Speed Checks; leave unknown or modified MU helpers untouched.
2.1.1
- Harden early bootstrap cache reads, request-target validation and token-gated diagnostic inputs.
- Remove direct
readfile()andparse_url()calls from the static cache drop-in without requiring WordPress APIs before they load. - Document narrowly scoped WordPress/WooCommerce interoperability constants and hooks, and limit on-demand query profiling backtraces.
- Safely replace bundled GameTranslate Performance Toolkit 2.1.0 diagnostic MU-helper while preserving unknown and administrator-modified MU-plugin files.
2.1.0
- Rename the plugin to GameTranslate Performance Toolkit, with distinct option keys, namespace, cache directory and text domain.
- Bundle static drop-in/MU-helper files instead of generating executable PHP on the server.
- Store page-cache settings as JSON, not generated PHP.
- Enqueue admin and frontend assets using the WordPress asset APIs.
- Balance plugin-owned output buffers in shutdown cleanup and document external services.
2.0.1
- Remove a prohibited WP_Query flag in Proof Engine and keep normal WordPress query filters enabled.
- Verify request nonces in each affected admin-post action handler.
- Briefly cache read-only autoload size queries and clarify the uninstall-only transient cleanup.
- No intentional changes to the page-cache engine, WooCommerce exclusions or measured-performance calculations.
2.0.0
- Add WooCommerce Safety Sentinel: read-only cache bypass inspection and synthetic public cookie probe, with explicit false-negative limitations.
- Add Cache Conflict Doctor: identify overlapping cache layers and settings without modifying them.
- Add read-only Autoload Footprint Inspector: exact overall totals, bounded top-300 analysis and no option value exposure.
- Include cleanup of the three new non-autoload diagnostic report options.
- Retain Proof Engine, Update Guardian, Commerce Impact Lab, GT Speed activation guard and opt-in performance tweaks.
1.2.0
- Add multi-sample Optimization Proof Engine: five public GET samples per target, median comparisons, cache-state consistency checks and inconclusive results when measurements are incomparable.
- Add opt-in Smart Update Guardian: twice-daily homepage reference, delayed after-update checks, bounded event history and administrator-only advisory notices.
- Automatically clean up the new monitoring options and cron hooks at deactivation/uninstall; keep settings rollback manual.
- Store optional proof and guardian results without autoload; keep the small active settings option autoloaded because it is needed on each frontend request.
1.1.2
- Recognize the real X-GTPT-Cache response header in Speed Check so valid cache HIT/MISS responses are reported accurately.
- Preserve detection of headers from other page cache providers.
1.1.1
- Block activation while GT Speed is active to prevent conflicting optimizations.
- Complete plugin-owned wp_options cleanup on uninstall, including font-state options and dynamic GameTranslate Performance Toolkit transient rows.
