FooThumbnail Gallery

Description

An easy way to display your WordPress galleries from a thumbnail image with FooBox.

NOTE: FooBox Free or Pro is REQUIRED for this plugin to work.

FULL DETAILS: For more information and resources on FooThumbnails for Galleries, visit foothumbnails.mattcromwell.com.

FooThumbnails for Galleries is designed to be the easiest way to create a Gallery that can be launched from a Thumbnail image using FooBox. With an intuitive creation “wizard”, options to select your thumbnail size, text wrapping, and 7 different layout including creating your own custom layout, you have all the options you need.

Why would you want to do that? Actually, it’s a really great way to have your gallery be totally responsive and social-shareable (with FooBox), while limiting the space it takes in your post. You can keep telling your story, and point folks to the gallery. FooBox supports captions so your gallery can tell a nice sub-story along the way. Here you’ll find a nice demo: http://foothumbnails.mattcromwell.com/demo

FAQ

  1. Where’s the Options?
I build this specifically to avoid “options”, so they are built into each Gallery you create. But if you go to “Settings > FooThumbnail Gallery” you have the ability to turn on shortcodes in Text Widgets, Post Excerpts, and Category Descriptions (these are not on by default in WordPress).

  2. Where’s the Support?
For now, support is all here. I’m on it, submit a ticket here and I’ll respond quickly. Please do not submit tickets at FooPlugins.com for this plugin.

  3. Can I change the styles of the gallery?
Absolutely! When you get to step 5, scroll down and you’ll see a dropdown that says “Do you want to customize the CSS?” Choose “Yes” and you’ll see a textarea populated with your layouts styles. Edit those, save/update, and you’re gold. BUT BE CAREFUL! If you select another layout, your changes to the previous layout will be lost (for now, yes, feature request, I know).

  4. The Template doesn’t seem to work well with my theme. What do I do?
Some template configurations will be a little awkward in tighter content areas. For example, if you want to use the “Full Horizontal” template, and you’ve got 640px of space in your content area, then you’re not going to want a thumbnail image that is larger than around 440px wide. That would leave you with only 200px of space for the description to the left.

But, that is also why I setup the Customize CSS field, so that you can make minor tweaks here and there to accomodate your content area. And no, sorry, I can’t provide support for custom CSS solutions. But definitely let me know if the Custom CSS field is not outputting your styles correctly, or if they are not being applied to your gallery correctly. That would be a problem!

  1. It’s not loading in FooBox. What do I do?
This most often happens when the “Attach FooBox” settings are not enabled correctly. Go to “Settings > FooBox”, then in the General tab, under the “Attach FooBox” section, enable “WordPress Galleries”. That’s all you need.
Known Issues
  1. ** Jetpack Carousel **
Jetpack’s Carousel takes over how the default WordPress gallery works throughout your whole site. Because FooThumbnails for Galleries depends on the default WordPress gallery, Jetpack’s Carousel breaks FTG. This is a known issue for which there just is no resolution. If you want to use FTG and use a carousel gallery, I would suggest you look into FooGallery and perhaps contact me about creating a custom gallery.
