EqualVia – Accessibility Scanner

Description

Since June 28, 2025 the European Accessibility Act (EAA) requires many online shops and services in the EU to be accessible. EqualVia checks your homepage against WCAG 2.2, the standard behind the EAA, and shows the result in your WordPress admin:

  • number of issues found, by severity (critical, serious, moderate, minor)
  • an example issue from your homepage, explained in plain language
  • a small dashboard widget with the latest result

Go to Tools Accessibility and click Run free check. The check takes about 20–40 seconds.

For the full list of issues with the exact places they occur and how to fix them, you can create a free account on equalvia.com. Paid plans add regular automatic re-checks and reports.

What makes EqualVia different:

  • A real browser, not an HTML parser: your homepage is loaded in a real browser on EqualVia’s servers, so the check also catches problems that only exist on the rendered page, such as low color contrast.
  • Nothing on your public pages: no overlay, no toolbar, no front-end script. The plugin only adds an admin page and a dashboard widget, and does not change your site.
  • No account or API key needed for the check.
  • English and Hungarian: the admin screens and the issue explanations follow your admin language.

This is automated technical WCAG testing, not legal advice. Automated tests cannot find every accessibility problem.

External services

This plugin connects to the EqualVia service (https://equalvia.com) to run the accessibility check. The check is done on EqualVia’s servers, because it needs a real browser to load your page.

  • What is sent, and when: only when an administrator clicks “Run free check” or “Check again”, the plugin sends your site’s homepage address, the address of the plugin’s ping endpoint, your admin language (English or Hungarian) and the plugin version to https://equalvia.com/api/wp/scan. EqualVia then loads your homepage like a visitor would, and calls the plugin’s public ping endpoint (/wp-json/equalvia/v1/ping) to confirm that the plugin is installed on that site. Nothing is sent at any other time, and no data about your visitors or users is sent.
  • Service provider: EqualVia – Terms, Privacy policy.

Installation

  1. Upload the equalvia-accessibility-scanner folder to /wp-content/plugins/, or install the plugin from the Plugins screen.
  2. Activate the plugin.
  3. Go to Tools Accessibility and click Run free check.

The site must be reachable from the internet (the check does not work on localhost or behind a password), and the WordPress REST API must be enabled.

FAQ

Does it check my whole site?

The free check covers your homepage. An EqualVia account can check more pages.

Does it fix the issues automatically?

No. Accessibility issues need real changes to your theme or content; overlay scripts cannot fix them reliably. EqualVia shows what to change and how.

How often can I run it?

A site can be checked a few times a day.
