Build a news ticker from your own content

Share breaking news or a service update with a message and an optional link. Use the rich text editor for formatted copy, or add HTML and output from another shortcode. Combine these sources with WordPress posts in the same ticker and arrange the content in the order you choose.

Each content component can be enabled or disabled independently. A post query stays together at its position in the ticker, so you can put an announcement before a group of headlines and a promotional message after them.

Turn your latest posts into a post ticker

Keep readers aware of new articles with a latest posts ticker. Select posts automatically, filter them by category or tag, and choose the number of results and their order. You can also handpick posts and arrange them yourself.

Post titles link to the original articles. Add a featured image, publication date or category when that context helps readers decide what to open. Free includes regular WordPress posts; Pro adds content from other post types.

Choose how your scrolling text moves

Use continuous horizontal scrolling for a marquee or text ticker. Set the direction and speed to suit your content. Sliding and fading show one item at a time, with configurable timing and transition duration.

Pause on hover is configurable per ticker. Motion pauses when keyboard focus enters the ticker, and the frontend respects the visitor’s reduced motion preference. Slide and fade tickers can display navigation arrows.

Place your news ticker where readers will see it

Add a ticker shortcode to your content, insert the Gutenberg ticker block, or select a saved ticker in the Elementor news ticker widget. These manual embeds use the same content and design as automatic bars.

For a sitewide message, enable automatic placement at the top or bottom of your site. Choose a fixed position to keep a promotional bar visible as visitors scroll, or use normal page flow. Fixed bars reserve their height by default and account for the WordPress admin bar at the top.

Include or exclude selected pages with display conditions. Any matching exclusion takes priority. These conditions apply to automatic placement; shortcode, block and Elementor embeds remain independent of them. Empty news tickers render no bar or reserved space.

Style scrolling text to fit your site

Give each ticker its own colors and typography. Adjust its height, corner radius and spacing, then choose a label and separators. Starter presets provide editable content and design settings you can use as a starting point.

Use a breaking news ticker on a publication, a promotional bar for an offer, or a notification bar for opening hours and service updates. Each ticker keeps its settings separate, so several embeds can have different designs.

Manage and move your tickers

Create multiple tickers from the Ember News Ticker dashboard. Duplicate an existing ticker as a draft or disable it while keeping its settings. Content, design, animation and placement are configured in the individual ticker editor.

Ticker import export uses JSON files. Imported tickers start as drafts for review. Site-specific content and media references need to be checked when moving a setup to another website.

Ember News Ticker Pro is a separate add-on that requires the free plugin. It adds RSS feed headlines and WooCommerce product offers, plus automatic or handpicked content from a selected post type. Promo items pair an image with a heading and supporting text. Individual component colors let you override the ticker’s text and link colors.

Source Code and Build Instructions

Readable JavaScript, React, SCSS and preset sources are included in assets/src/. The plugin also includes package.json, package-lock.json and scripts/package-plugin.js so you can reproduce its bundled assets. No Node.js tools are needed to use the installed plugin.

To build from the plugin directory, use Node.js 22.13.0 or newer and npm 8.19.2 or newer:

1. Run npm ci to install the locked dependencies.
2. Run npm run build to compile the dashboard, ticker editor, frontend and block assets into assets/build/.

For development, run npm run start to watch dashboard, editor and frontend sources, and npm run start:blocks in a second terminal to watch the block source.

To create a release ZIP at a chosen location, run npm run build followed by node scripts/package-plugin.js /absolute/path/to/ember-news-ticker.zip. The output path must be outside the plugin directory. In the project’s Local site layout, npm run zip builds and saves the archive in the site’s releases/ directory. Release archives include readable sources and build tools, while excluding installed Node dependencies, tests, contributor notes and Finder metadata.
