Description
ElevenRank is an all-in-one SEO plugin that is being built in the open, one release at a time.
What it does today
- Titles and meta descriptions built from templates with variables such as the post title, site name, category and page number, for posts, pages, custom post types, categories, tags, archives, search results and the homepage.
- Robots directives, with sensible defaults: search results, date archives, empty category pages and attachment pages are kept out of search results, and every default can be changed.
- Canonical links that are correct on paginated pages.
- Open Graph and X (Twitter) card tags with a default sharing image.
- A short setup wizard that checks your site title, tagline and search engine visibility.
- An SEO sidebar in the block editor and an SEO box in the Classic Editor: focus keywords, a live preview of the search result and of social shares, per-post titles, descriptions, robots settings and canonical URL, and an SEO score with 19 checks on keyword use, length and readability. It works the same in both editors.
- SEO title, description and score columns in the posts list, with a score filter, a noindex filter, bulk noindex actions and Quick Edit fields.
- XML sitemaps for posts, pages, custom post types, categories, tags and (optionally) authors, with images, split into files and shown in a readable table in the browser.
- A robots.txt editor with a safe default and a reset button.
- Redirects: exact, contains, starts with, ends with and regular-expression rules with the status codes 301, 302, 307, 410 and 451, loop and safety checks, CSV import and export, and an automatic 301 when you change the address of a published post.
- A 404 monitor that lists the pages visitors asked for and did not find, so you can redirect them. It stores no IP addresses or browser details.
- Structured data (JSON-LD) in one graph per page: your organization or person, the website, the page, the breadcrumb, and for posts an article, product, recipe, event, video or review. Fields that are empty or not valid are left out, and nothing is made up.
- Breadcrumbs as a block, a shortcode and a template function.
- Image alt text and title filled from your own patterns when an image has none; images marked as decorative are left alone.
- Import from Yoast SEO, Rank Math, All in One SEO and SEOPress: titles, descriptions, focus keywords, robots, canonical and social settings for posts, terms and authors, the site-wide settings and, where the plugin keeps them in free storage, redirects. Check what would change first; nothing of the other plugin is changed or deleted.
- Settings export and import, reset by group, a role editor for who may manage redirects, view the 404 log, edit post SEO or import, and a status screen with a debug text you can copy (it contains no addresses, keys or e-mails).
- WP-CLI commands for importing, status, redirects and caches.
- Safe next to another SEO plugin: while one is active, ElevenRank does not add tags, so nothing is printed twice.
What you can rely on
- No tracking, no ads in your dashboard, and no connections to outside servers.
- Your data is kept when you delete the plugin, unless you switch on “Delete all data on uninstall”.
- Works on single sites and on multisite networks.
External services
ElevenRank does not connect to any external service.
Source code
The admin interface in build/ is compiled from the readable source in src/ (JavaScript and SCSS, using the packages in package.json). To rebuild it, run npm install (dependency versions are pinned in package.json) and then npm run build in the plugin folder. The readable source is included in this plugin’s src/ folder, next to package.json and webpack.config.js, so the compiled files can be reproduced from what is shipped.
Blocks
This plugin provides 1 block.
- Breadcrumbs Shows the path from the home page to the current page.
Installation
- Upload the
elevenrankfolder to/wp-content/plugins/, or install the plugin from the Plugins screen. - Activate ElevenRank through the Plugins screen. The setup wizard opens.
- Open ElevenRank > Titles & Meta to review how your titles and descriptions are built.
FAQ
-
Does ElevenRank send any data to another server?
-
No. This release makes no requests to outside services. The content analysis runs in your browser; your text is not sent anywhere. The only request it makes goes to your own site, to check whether another post uses the same focus keyword. Any future feature that needs one will be switched off by default and described in the “External services” section below before it is released.
-
Which structured data does ElevenRank print?
-
One JSON-LD graph in the head of every page: the organization or person behind the site, the website, the page and its breadcrumb. Posts are described as articles by default; in the editor, under Schema, a post can be described as an article, blog post, news article, product, recipe, event, video or review instead. Product, recipe, event, video and review need details that you type in, and nothing is printed for a type that is missing something Google requires. FAQ and HowTo markup are not offered because Google no longer shows them in search results.
-
Does ElevenRank invent ratings or reviews?
-
No. A rating is only printed when you entered both the average and the number of ratings, and it should only describe ratings that are shown on the page.
-
What does the 404 monitor store?
-
For each missing address: the address (without anything after a question mark), the page that linked to it (also without a query string), how often it was requested and when it was first and last requested. It never stores IP addresses, browser details or cookies, does not record logged-in administrators, search engine crawlers or image requests, keeps at most 5,000 entries and deletes entries that have not been requested for 30 days (both can be changed). Suggested text for your privacy policy is added under Settings > Privacy.
-
Where is my sitemap?
-
At
/sitemap_index.xml(/sitemap.xmlredirects there). With plain permalinks WordPress uses a query-string address; the Sitemaps screen shows the exact link. WordPress’s own sitemap is switched off while ElevenRank’s is active. -
Can I clear the sitemap from the command line?
-
Yes:
wp elevenrank sitemap flush, or add--regenerateto rebuild every file. -
My robots.txt edits have no effect.
-
If a real
robots.txtfile exists in the site folder, the web server serves it and WordPress never sees the request. Delete or rename the file to use the editor. -
Add the Breadcrumbs block, use the
[elevenrank_breadcrumbs]shortcode, or callelevenrank_breadcrumbs();in your theme. -
How do I move from another SEO plugin?
-
Open ElevenRank > Import. Each plugin whose data is found is listed with what it holds. Press Check what would change to see the result without writing anything, then Import now. Values you already set in ElevenRank are kept unless you tick the box to replace them. Importing again changes nothing. Deactivate the other plugin when you are ready; its data is left untouched. Template variables that ElevenRank has no equivalent for are left out and listed. Redirects are imported where the other plugin keeps them in free storage (Rank Math and SEOPress); paid redirect add-ons are not read. From the command line:
wp elevenrank import yoast --dry-run. -
I already use another SEO plugin. Will they clash?
-
No. While another SEO plugin is active, ElevenRank does not add titles, meta tags or canonical links, and shows one notice you can dismiss. When you are ready to switch, deactivate the other plugin. If you want ElevenRank to add its tags anyway, turn on the option in ElevenRank > General.
-
How is the SEO score calculated?
-
Each check is worth a number of points, and the score is the share of those points the post earns, from 0 to 100. 80 or more is good, 50 to 79 needs improvement, below 50 is poor. Checks that cannot apply (for instance the keyword checks when no focus keyword is set) are left out. The readability checks are available for English; for other languages they are skipped and the SEO checks still work.
-
The score in the posts list is out of date.
-
The score is stored when you save the post in the editor. Quick Edit and bulk actions do not change it, because the analysis only runs in the editor. Open the post and save it to refresh the score.
-
Who can use the SEO box?
-
Administrators, editors and authors. Authors can set the focus keywords, title, description and social fields of their own posts; editors can also change robots directives, the canonical URL and breadcrumb title. Both can be changed under your user role settings with the capabilities
elevenrank_edit_post_seoandelevenrank_edit_post_advanced. -
My page title did not change.
-
Your theme has to let WordPress set the page title (the “title-tag” feature). Block themes and nearly all modern themes do. The ElevenRank dashboard tells you if yours does not.
-
What happens to my data if I delete the plugin?
-
Nothing, unless you switch on Delete all data on uninstall in ElevenRank > General. With the option off, deleting the plugin keeps your settings so a reinstall picks up where you left off.
