Description
Dietrofront adds to WooCommerce the online withdrawal function required by art. 54-bis of the Italian Consumer Code, mandatory in Italy from 19 June 2026 (Legislative Decree 209/2025, implementing EU Directive 2023/2673).
The plugin shows the pre-contractual information (art. 49 c.1 lett. h) on the product page and in the cart, provides a button with the unambiguous wording required by the law, and handles a withdrawal in two steps with a separate confirmation. At the end it automatically sends the consumer a receipt on a durable medium containing the text of the declaration and the exact date and time of transmission.
A compliance requirement, not just a nice touch
Anyone selling online to consumers in Italy must provide a withdrawal function that is clearly visible, always accessible and free of any justification, for the whole 14-day period. If the information is incomplete, the term is no longer 14 days but 12 months and 14 days in favor of the consumer. Dietrofront is built to meet these requirements in a verifiable and traceable way.
Why WooCommerce’s native feature is not enough
WooCommerce includes a withdrawal feature that is experimental and marked as @internal (subject to change or removal without notice). Dietrofront replaces it with an implementation dedicated to the Italian market:
- Compliant texts. Exact wording “recedere dal contratto qui” and confirmation command “conferma recesso”, both configurable. The native feature uses generic strings.
- Correct start of the period. The 14 days run from delivery: Dietrofront adds a delivery date field on the order, with a fallback to the completion or creation date. The native feature relies on the standard dates only.
- Product exclusions (art. 59). A checkbox on the product for custom/personalized or sealed goods, with automatic exclusion of the withdrawal when all items are excluded.
- Guests without an account. Withdrawal also for those who buy as a guest, with order number and email verification. The native feature is effectively tied to the account area.
- Receipt on a durable medium. Configurable WooCommerce email (HTML and text) containing the text of the declaration, date and time and order number, always sent because it is a legal obligation.
- Traceability. The withdrawal is recorded from the moment of transmission with a timestamp and an order note, regardless of the outcome of the email delivery.
- Independence and security. No dependency on internal APIs: nonce, rate limiting per IP and email, anti-enumeration messages, HPOS support.
