Create with Code

Description

create.withcode.uk lets you write, run, debug and share python code in your browser. This plugin lets you quickly embed your code projects in your wordpress site

When you share a project from create.withcode.uk, you get a URL like: https://create.withcode.uk/embed/3C or https://create.withcode.uk/run/3C

Take the last section of the URL and use it in the shortcode to embed it in your wordpress site:

[withcode id=”3C”]

You can customise choose to display the code or run it using the mode attribute:

[withcode id=”3C” mode=”embed”] or [withcode id=”3C” mode=”run”]

You can also specifiy the height / width of the code snipped:

[withcode id=”3C” mode=”embed” width=”400px” height=”600px”]

Installation

Upload the create-withcode plugin to your blog, Activate it and add a shortcode to any page / post

Reviews

Untrustworthy, spammy, bad UI

I just want to warn users about avoiding this plugin. The idea is that this allows you to showcase python code on your site. It allows visitors to run them and see the output. However, you need to watch out for the following things about this plugin: 1) Spammy: I'm okay with a little promo text. But this one goes too far. Big "Run" button which leads to the author's website. Everytime the user tries to run the code he will leave your site and reach the author's. There is a hotkey to run it which lets the user remain on the page. However, if he clicks the biiig run button then he'll leave your site. 2) Clumsy UI: For managing your snippets, you need to login to their website, create a new page with snippet, there's no way to rename the default page, the "create new page" button is hidden, multi-tab renaming and managing is very clumsy, there's no indication of saving and a still a bunch of other crazy UI issues. Basically, after an hour of frustration I decided to give it up. 3) Untrustworthy: The idea is that you host all your python snippets on the author's website. Guess what, as of Jan 2019 when I'm writing this review, the author has declared that he's going to create a python course. This is a big red flag. What's to say all your code could end up being part of his course with slight modifications.
