The CookieShift WordPress plugin connects your website to the CookieShift platform. Once connected, CookieShift can display a customizable cookie consent banner and preference center while the CookieShift dashboard provides tools for scanning cookies, managing consent categories, configuring supported tracking behavior, reviewing consent activity, and managing privacy-related settings.

CookieShift brings cookie discovery, consent management, banner customization, multilingual tools, consent analytics, and AI-assisted privacy workflows into one connected experience.

It is designed to help website owners understand what is running on their website and give visitors meaningful control over their privacy choices.

How CookieShift Works

CookieShift connects your WordPress website with the hosted CookieShift platform.

After installing the plugin:

  1. Create a new CookieShift account or connect an existing account.
  2. Connect your WordPress website to a CookieShift Site ID.
  3. Scan your website for cookies and tracking technologies.
  4. Review and classify the technologies discovered.
  5. Configure consent categories and privacy preferences.
  6. Customize your cookie banner and preference center.
  7. Configure supported tracking and script behavior.
  8. Publish your consent configuration.
  9. Monitor consent activity and scan information from the CookieShift dashboard.

The WordPress plugin provides the WordPress integration and loads the CookieShift CMP. Cookie scanning, dashboard functionality, analytics, AI-assisted tools, and other hosted services are provided by the CookieShift platform.

Cookie Consent Banner

CookieShift provides a customizable cookie consent banner that helps visitors understand and manage their privacy choices.

Depending on the configuration, visitors can accept cookies and tracking technologies, reject non-essential cookies, customize consent preferences, choose individual consent categories, open the preference center, and change their preferences later.

Administrators can manage banner content, buttons, categories, languages, appearance, preference-center settings, and consent behavior from the CookieShift platform.

Cookie Preference Center

The CookieShift preference center gives visitors more control over their privacy choices.

Administrators can organize cookies and tracking technologies into categories such as Necessary, Preferences, Analytics, Marketing, Advertising, and other non-essential technologies.

Visitors can review available categories and update their preferences according to the configuration published by the website administrator.

Cookie & Tracker Scanner

CookieShift includes a hosted scanner that helps discover cookies, trackers, scripts, and other technologies used by your website.

The scanner can help you:

  • Discover cookies and tracking technologies.
  • Build a cookie and technology inventory.
  • Find previously unknown technologies.
  • Identify unclassified cookies.
  • Review cookie purposes and classifications.
  • Organize technologies into consent categories.
  • Review changes found during later scans.

Scanning is provided by the CookieShift hosted service rather than being performed entirely inside the WordPress plugin.

Cookie & Script Control

CookieShift can use visitor consent preferences to control supported non-essential tracking technologies.

This can help website administrators manage technologies such as analytics, marketing, advertising, and other non-essential tracking according to the visitor’s consent state.

Actual enforcement can depend on how individual scripts and tags are implemented, browser behavior, and tag loading order. Review the implementation guidance provided in your CookieShift dashboard when configuring tracking technologies.

Consent Management

CookieShift provides tools for managing the consent workflow.

Administrators can configure:

  • Consent categories.
  • Accept and reject behavior.
  • Preference center options.
  • Banner content.
  • Banner buttons.
  • Cookie and tracker classifications.
  • Supported tracking behavior.
  • Languages.
  • Consent preferences.

Configuration is managed through CookieShift, so normal banner changes do not require editing WordPress theme files.

Google Consent Mode

CookieShift can be configured to work with Google Consent Mode and communicate visitor consent signals to supported Google services.

The final behavior depends on your Google tag configuration, CookieShift settings, and how Google services are implemented on your website.

Always verify your tag implementation and consent configuration before publishing changes.

Multilingual Consent

CookieShift supports multilingual consent experiences for websites serving visitors in different languages and regions.

Administrators can manage consent-related content for different languages through the CookieShift platform.

CookieShift also provides AI-assisted translation capabilities that can help generate translation content for review before publishing.

Translated content should always be reviewed before being shown to visitors.

AI-Assisted Privacy Management

CookieShift includes AI-assisted tools to simplify repetitive cookie and privacy-management tasks.

Depending on your plan and configuration, AI assistance can help with:

  • Cookie and tracker classification.
  • Cookie category suggestions.
  • Cookie descriptions.
  • Consent-related content.
  • Privacy analysis.
  • Translation workflows.

AI-generated results are assistance only. They should be reviewed before publishing and do not certify GDPR, CCPA, LGPD, ePrivacy, or any other legal requirement.

Privacy & Compliance Support

CookieShift provides technical tools that can help websites manage consent workflows associated with:

  • GDPR.
  • CCPA and related US privacy requirements.
  • LGPD.
  • ePrivacy.

CookieShift helps website owners provide privacy choices, manage visitor consent, and control supported non-essential tracking according to their configuration.

Privacy requirements vary depending on location, business activities, data processing practices, technologies, third-party services, and applicable laws.

CookieShift does not guarantee legal compliance. Installing the plugin alone does not make a website legally compliant.

Website owners remain responsible for their privacy notices, cookie policies, consent configuration, tracking implementation, and applicable legal requirements.

What the WordPress Plugin Does

The CookieShift WordPress plugin provides the connection between WordPress and the CookieShift platform.

The plugin:

  • Loads the CookieShift CMP on the public website when connected.
  • Allows administrators to create a CookieShift account.
  • Allows administrators to connect an existing CookieShift account.
  • Connects the website to a CookieShift Site ID.
  • Provides access to CookieShift dashboard tools.
  • Shows available consent activity summaries in WordPress admin.
  • Provides synchronization and connection management.
  • Allows administrators to disconnect the website.
  • Stores the Site ID required for the integration.
  • Stores an encrypted API/module token for authenticated server-side communication.

Advanced scanning, analytics, AI-assisted functionality, and hosted CMP services are provided by the CookieShift platform.

Configuration

After connecting your website:

  1. Open the CookieShift dashboard.
  2. Run a website scan.
  3. Review discovered cookies and tracking technologies.
  4. Classify and organize technologies into consent categories.
  5. Configure your consent preferences.
  6. Customize the cookie banner and preference center.
  7. Configure supported tracking behavior.
  8. Publish your configuration.
  9. Test the banner and preference center on your website.

Managing the Connection

The WordPress admin integration allows administrators to:

  • Create a new CookieShift account.
  • Connect an existing CookieShift account.
  • Connect the current website.
  • Synchronize module status.
  • View available consent information.
  • Open CookieShift dashboard tools.
  • Disconnect the website.

Disconnecting removes the locally stored API token. The CookieShift cloud account and website property are not deleted.

The Site ID may be retained so the website can be reconnected to the same CookieShift property when possible.

Privacy / Data Handling

When connected, the plugin can store:

  • CookieShift Site ID.
  • Encrypted API/module token.
  • Site URL or installation identity.
  • Optional workspace metadata.

The API/module token is stored in WordPress options using encrypted storage based on site salts.

The token is used for server-side communication with CookieShift and is not intentionally exposed on public website pages.

The hosted CookieShift CMP can process consent decisions according to the configuration associated with your CookieShift website.

Uninstalling the plugin removes its stored CookieShift options from the WordPress database.
