Description
Conforma Accessibility Scan adds Tools > Accessibility scan to wp-admin. One click tests your site’s home page against WCAG 2.2 level AA, the web part of the European accessibility standard EN 301 549, which websites selling to consumers in the EU have to meet under the European Accessibility Act.
The scan runs on Conforma’s servers. Conforma opens your home page in a real browser at desktop and phone width and tests it with axe-core, the open-source rules engine from Deque Systems. The page then shows:
- a score out of 100
- the number of failing elements by severity
- the three worst WCAG failures, each with its success criterion and how to fix it
- a link to the full report on conformahq.com, which lists every failure with its fix
The plugin changes nothing on your public site and adds no scripts to it. It contacts Conforma only when an administrator starts a scan.
Automated testing covers about a third of the WCAG success criteria. Full conformance needs a manual review with a keyboard and a screen reader as well.
Conforma account
The scan needs no account. A free Conforma account starts with the plugin’s result and scans up to 25 pages of the site, with every issue, its fix and an accessibility statement. Paid plans scan more sites on a schedule and send an email when a score drops. See Conforma’s pricing.
External services
This plugin uses Conforma (https://conformahq.com), an accessibility testing service run by Falka Software in Breda, the Netherlands, to scan your home page.
When an administrator starts a scan on Tools > Accessibility scan, their browser sends the site’s home page address and their WordPress language to https://conformahq.com/api/wordpress/v1/scan. The request also carries the browser’s IP address, which Conforma uses to limit free scans to three results an hour. The plugin sends nothing before that, and nothing from the public site.
Conforma opens the home page as a visitor would and stores the result: the page address and title, the score and the HTML of the failing elements. The newest result for a home page is shown on a public report page for the domain at https://conformahq.com/accessibility-report/, which the site’s owner can take down with the removal link on that page. Other results are deleted after 90 days.

- Privacy policy: https://conformahq.com/privacy
The plugin keeps the last result in the WordPress database (the option conforma_scan_last_result) and deletes it when the plugin is deleted.

FAQ
-
Does the plugin fix accessibility problems?
-
No. It finds them and tells you how to fix each one in your theme, your content or your plugins. It does not add an overlay or any script to your site.
-
Why does the page say my site has a local or private address?
-
Conforma scans from the internet, so it cannot reach a site on localhost, a .local or .test domain, or a private network address. Install the plugin on the live site, or scan the live address at https://conformahq.com.
-
My visitors use another address than WordPress does. Can I scan that one?
-
Yes. For a headless WordPress with its own front end, or a site behind a proxy, return the public address from the conforma_scan_home_url filter:
add_filter( 'conforma_scan_home_url', function () { return 'https://www.example.com/'; } ); -
The scan says the site blocks automated visits. What now?
-
Some firewalls and security plugins turn away browsers they do not recognise. The message on the page says how to let Conforma’s scanner through.
-
How often can I scan?
-
Three results an hour from one IP address, shared with the free scan on conformahq.com. A Conforma account has no hourly limit.
-
Which languages does the result come in?
-
Rule titles, criteria and fixes come in English, German, Dutch or French, following your WordPress language. The plugin’s own text can be translated on translate.wordpress.org.
