Description
ChimpanSEO Connector links your WordPress site to ChimpanSEO, a service that writes SEO and GEO optimized articles and publishes them on your site.
Without this plugin you have to create a user, generate an Application Password and copy three values into ChimpanSEO. With the plugin you click one button and paste a single connection code.
What the plugin does
- When you click “Create connection code”, it creates a dedicated user called
chimpseo_editorwith the Editor role, if it does not exist yet. - It creates a WordPress Application Password for that user and shows a connection code that contains your site address, site name, the username and the Application Password. The code stays visible for 15 minutes and is not stored in the database.
- It lets you create a new code (the previous credentials are revoked) or revoke access at any time.
- It marks the posts created by ChimpanSEO and shows simple statistics about them: totals, published and unpublished posts, monthly trend, words, categories and the latest posts.
What the plugin does not do
- It makes no outgoing HTTP requests and does not send any data by itself.
- It does not add tracking, ads or links to your site.
- It does not create anything until an administrator clicks “Create connection code”.
Requirements
- A ChimpanSEO account.
- An HTTPS site: WordPress enables Application Passwords only on HTTPS sites, and ChimpanSEO accepts only HTTPS connections.
- Application Passwords must not be disabled by another plugin or by your hosting provider.
External services
This plugin connects your site to ChimpanSEO, an external service operated by the ChimpanSEO team (https://chimpanseo.app). ChimpanSEO generates articles and publishes them on your site through the standard WordPress REST API.
The plugin itself never contacts ChimpanSEO. Data reaches the service only when an administrator copies the connection code and pastes it into the ChimpanSEO app.
- Data in the connection code: site address, site name, the username of the dedicated user (
chimpseo_editor) and its Application Password. - What ChimpanSEO does with it: it stores the credentials to authenticate REST API requests to your site. With them it reads and creates categories and tags, uploads images to the Media Library, and creates, updates and reads posts, within the permissions of the Editor role.
- When: only after you paste the code in ChimpanSEO, and only for as long as the credentials are active. You can stop it at any time with “Revoke access” or by deleting the plugin.

FAQ
-
Do I need a ChimpanSEO account?
-
Yes. The plugin only creates the credentials that ChimpanSEO uses to publish on your site. You can create an account at https://chimpanseo.app.
-
Why does the plugin create a new user?
-
A dedicated user keeps ChimpanSEO separate from real people: you can see which posts it wrote and revoke its access without touching your own account. The user has the Editor role, so it can manage posts and media but cannot change settings, plugins or themes.
-
Is the connection code stored on my site?
-
No. WordPress stores only a hash of the Application Password. The code is kept for 15 minutes, so you have time to copy it, and then it is deleted. If you lose it, create a new one.
-
The page says Application Passwords are not available. What can I do?
-
WordPress enables Application Passwords only on sites served over HTTPS. Enable HTTPS on your site, or check whether a security plugin or your hosting provider disabled Application Passwords. For sites without HTTPS you can still connect ChimpanSEO manually from the app.
-
How do I disconnect ChimpanSEO?
-
Click “Revoke access” on the ChimpanSEO page. ChimpanSEO can no longer publish until you create a new code.
-
What happens when I delete the plugin?
-
The plugin revokes the ChimpanSEO Application Password, deletes the dedicated user, reassigns that user’s posts to an administrator (posts are never deleted) and removes its options and post markers.
-
I installed version 1.0.x from the ChimpanSEO website. How do I update?
-
Install this version, then deactivate and delete the old “ChimpanSEO Connector” copy. Your connection keeps working because both versions use the same user and settings.
