Catavio – Catalog Health for WooCommerce

Description

Catavio scans your WooCommerce products for the information that is missing, empty or incomplete, and reports what it found from one admin screen.

It does not edit anything. Every product it flags links to the standard WooCommerce product editor, which is where the fix happens.

About the name

Catavio is the name of this plugin. “Catalog Health for WooCommerce” describes what it does, and names WooCommerce only to say what it works with.

Catavio is an independent plugin, developed and maintained by Saiful Islam. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or otherwise connected to WooCommerce, Automattic Inc. or the WordPress Foundation. WooCommerce and WordPress are trademarks of their respective owners.

What it checks

Each product is checked against thirteen rules. A rule that does not apply to a product type is skipped rather than failed, so a simple product is never penalised for having no variations.

  • Product title
  • Description
  • Short description
  • Price
  • SKU
  • Product category
  • Featured image
  • Featured image alt text
  • Stock configuration
  • Variations, for variable products
  • Variation attributes, for variable products
  • Downloadable files, for downloadable products
  • Product URL, for external products

The health score

Every product starts at 100 and loses points for each issue found, weighted by how serious the issue is. The product detail screen shows the full arithmetic: the starting score, every deduction, and the total. No part of the score is hidden or estimated.

Products are grouped as healthy, needs attention or critical. That grouping is decided by what a scan found, not by a score threshold: critical means at least one critical issue, needs attention means at least one issue of any kind, and healthy means nothing was found.

Scanning

Scans run when you ask for one, never on their own and never when a page loads. Large catalogs are processed in batches, progress is reported as it goes, and a scan that is interrupted can be continued rather than restarted.

Results are stored, so opening the dashboard reads the last scan instead of walking your catalog again.

Privacy

The plugin makes no external requests. It collects no analytics, sends nothing anywhere, and requires no account or licence key. Everything it stores stays in your own database, and deleting the plugin removes all of it.

Accessibility

Colour is never the only way a status is shown. Every severity and every health group is also written out in words, the scan reports its progress to screen readers, and the admin screens are tested against axe on every build.

Installation

  1. Install and activate WooCommerce 8.0 or newer.
  2. Upload the plugin to /wp-content/plugins/catavio, or install it through Plugins > Add New.
  3. Activate the plugin through the Plugins screen.
  4. Go to Catalog Health in the admin menu and run your first scan. The Dashboard and Product Health tabs are both on that one screen.

WooCommerce is declared as a required plugin, so on WordPress 6.5 and newer the Plugins screen and the installer both state the dependency, and Catavio cannot be activated until WooCommerce is active.

WordPress 6.4 does not enforce that, and the declaration says nothing about which WooCommerce version is active. So Catavio also checks for itself: if WooCommerce is missing or older than 8.0, or PHP or WordPress is below the versions above, it activates without error, stays completely inert, and explains why in a dismissible notice on the Plugins screen — and on no other admin page. It never fails an activation and never raises a fatal error.

FAQ

Does it change my products?

No. The plugin only reads product data. It writes its own results as post meta and never modifies a title, price, description, image or any other product field.

Will it slow down my store?

No. Nothing runs on the front end, and no scan runs on a page load. Scanning happens only when you start it, in batches, from the admin. The dashboard reads a stored summary rather than querying the catalog.

Who can see it?

Anyone who can manage WooCommerce. The capability is manage_woocommerce where WooCommerce has registered it, falling back to edit_products and then manage_options. It can be changed with the catavio_capability filter.

Does it add anything to my admin pages?

One menu item, and nothing else. There are no upgrade prompts, no upsells, no review requests, no banners, no dashboard widgets and no notices on pages that have nothing to do with the plugin. The only notice it can raise is the WooCommerce requirement message, which appears on the Plugins screen alone and can be dismissed.

What happens to my data if I delete the plugin?

All of it is removed. Deleting the plugin deletes its three options and all six of its per-product meta keys, across every site on a multisite network. Deactivating, by contrast, leaves your scan results in place so that reactivating does not force a rescan.

Does it work with High-Performance Order Storage?

Yes. The plugin reads product data only and never touches orders, and it declares compatibility with both HPOS and cart and checkout blocks.

Does it support variable products?

Yes. Variable products are checked for having variations at all and for variation attributes being set, in addition to the rules that apply to every product type.

Is it translation ready?

Yes. All strings in both the PHP and the JavaScript are translatable, and the plugin ships a POT file.
