404 Error Logger

Description

Logs 404 (Page Not Found) errors on your WordPress site. This can be useful for tracking down broken links or missing content. You can optionally record additional information such as IP addresses, user agents and referrers.

IMPORTANT: This plugin will not work if you use a caching/performance plugin that caches 404 responses. Please check that this isn’t the case before reporting a bug.

If you come across any bugs or have suggestions, please use the plugin support forums.

Installation

  1. Upload the plugin folder to the /wp-content/plugins/ directory
  2. Activate the plugin through the ‘Plugins’ menu in WordPress
  3. The plugin settings can be accessed via the ‘Tools’ menu in the administration area, under ‘404 Error Logger’

FAQ

Will this plugin work if a caching/performance plugin is active ?

The plugin has been tested with the following caching plugins, and should work even if they are active:

  • W3 Total Cache
  • WP Super Cache
  • Hyper Cache (you must configure it not to cache 404 pages)

I have not tested it with other caching plugins, and there is a high chance that it will not work with many of them. Most of them will cache the response so that it cannot be logged.

Reviews

Surprisingly good

Does what it says on the tin and does it well. I use Yoast Pro so didn’t want this to manage my redirections but just log the errors etc. Very happy with it

Needed Plugin

I used this plugin to help track the problem of 404 alert page that kept appearing in the header area of all my WordPress site pages, including in the Admin area.

The part that helped was the IP address that was requesting pages that did not exist and a couple times a hacker did that leaving his IP address.

Well, because this WordPress site is designed for a local business, a person from Russia or China has no value as a visitor to the site so he got blocked and this helped reduce the incessant 404 displays. It did not resolve the issue, it helped and any help against hackers is priceless. 5 Stars 🙂

Excellent plugin

Should the developer add the option to also view the 404s in a condensed way (like in 404-error-monitor) it would be a 5 stars tool for any WP site. Eventually the possibility to sort it by URL or by IP, I don’t know.

I can’t wait for a future update in this sense. Good work!
