• My website has been down since about 3 PM EST. I get the following error:

    Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can’t contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host’s database server is down.

Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
Are you sure that the database server is running?
If you’re unsure what these terms mean you should probably contact your host. If you still need help you can always visit the WordPress Support Forums.

My other websites, on the same host, are working fine. I also had problems yesterday. I had no issues since installing this software until I activated Akismet. Can anyone help me?

  • I would imagine that you should probably contact your host because if you username and password to your database for that particular site is correct in your wp-config.php, it would mean that the mySQL server is not running on your site. Contact your host would be the best bet and double check that you have the correct information in your wp-config.php file because that error specifically means that it cannot talk with the database.
