   Ok, i nearly have wordpress working as a website.
   How do i go about replacing my existing home page (www.ionian-island.co.uk) whih has been established for many years with a google etc. with the wordpress homepage??
   without losing existing search engine rankings or duplication penalties?

   as above then /wordpress folder.

   In the root folder of your domain, try adding the following to your .htaccess file:

   Redirect 301 /index.html http://www.ionian-island.co.uk/wordpress/
