I want to use ḍiācṛīticṣ (obviously they work on here) when I am writing, however no matter what I try, I can’t get them to show, it just comes up with a question mark.

Now I know that Segoe UI supports all of these diacritics and that I can use them in Microsoft Word with no problems. However when I change the font in WordPress to Segoe UI and insert letters with these diacritics, it shows them as questions marks.

Any idea how I could get this working? Thanks

Can anyone help me? It has got to be possible, I can even type them in when I’m adding a post, but once I publish it, they all turn to question marks.

I see diacritics on so many websites so it can’t be that hard to get working, can someone please point me in the right direction?

    Thanks

I’ve just copied the word ḍiācṛīticṣ from your post above and pasted it into a post in the text editor, saved the post and it displayed correctly on the front end.

Are you entering the text into the plain text editor?
if you change to the default theme is it any different?

Thanks for trying that, it does seem that it is specific to my theme, which is rather annoying.

I have posted on the theme’s support forum, however if the only advice I get is to hire them to fix it, is there any way I could get this working myself?

In the theme’s header, make sure it uses utf-8, and that your server supports it:

Thanks raskull for putting me on the right track. The theme did already use utf-8, however after reading your link, I had to change the standard WordPress database tables to use utf8_unicode_ci

After finding an ALTER query to change them all, diacritics is now working.

    Thanks for the advice!

Though I think you could have done something with Settings > Reading > Encoding for pages and feeds > UTF-8 (which should have been the default setting)… but there you go!

It was already set to UTF-8.
