    hi

i am a novice at setting up a website. i have my domain and hosting but now need to design site. how do i go about choosing a theme? no idea what i should be considering and most of the jargon is alien to me. someone said functionality 1st, colour and layout second? what is classed as functionality and if i choose a theme can i change colours and layout of it to suit my company?

    1. Functionality just means will the theme work for your company. Does it have the components that you want, a special type of page or a type of design on a widget that will help your company show off whats important. For example you wouldn't want a "Barbie Doll" personal blog theme when you are selling medical supplies to a doctors office.

2.) Yes, you can change the theme by making a child theme and editing colors and such. :)

I hope this helps! Welcome to WordPress!
    Thanks

    Hi pool-pro,

Functionality would be things like built in plugins or options in a theme. Some people need built-in social buttons, extra widget areas, etc. in their theme. If you're just starting out, I would recommend you start off with an easy to customize theme. Here are a few suggestions:

    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/constructor

    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/blogolife

    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/platform

    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/coraline

    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/graphene

    http://wordpress.org/extend/themes/comet

You could also search for themes with the colors and/or the layout options you want.

If you want to make changes to the default layout/colors of a theme, make sure you create a Child Theme first:

    Hope this helps!
