• HELP!!

I updated to the newest version for my theme which is Coraline, and it completely stripped all my custome settings and reverted back to the default! All my fonts and colors are gone. Now my site looks horrible, and i do not know how to use css and i do not have time to re-create my site. Please help, i need my old site back asap!! Thanks 🙂

  • Did you make a backup copy of the theme before you updated it? If not, then I’m afraid your customisations have been lost.

Example #3,247,581 of why all Theme customizations should be made in a Child Theme

… assuming that all themes are child friendly. Some aren’t. I’ve no idea about Coraline but I would like to see some indication of whether a theme is (or is not) child friendly. Perhaps we could even encourage theme authors to place a warning about customisations in their theme’s description?

Very few things would make a Theme Child-unfriendly, especially for CSS-only changes.

One of the main things is appropriate use of get_template_*() and get_stylesheet_*() functions, so that the correct resource is targeted.

so basically i have to start from the begining now? great…

Fair point. I was thinking of cases where people need to re-write functions or change defines.

@kiraatloupe: You could try contacting your hosts and asking if they have a backup copy of your old theme but, if that fails, I’m afraid there’s nothing else you can do but start again. 🙁
